adopted new dog Well, i wanted to tell everyone that I have adopted a new dog from a shelter this past weekend. For those of you who don't know, i had a yorkie and my lab acidentally nipped at the pup and we lost her immediately. I know my Buddy did not mean any harm and i wanted another yorkie, but people told me i should not go there right now. Sooooo, i have been searching for adoptable or foster dogs and found a 16-pound Japanese Chin that needs alot of love and affection. He is about a year old and has demodectic mange. We are taking him to the vet tomorrow to get good meds to make him better. if anyone knows anything about this disorder i would love any information you might have. I have been researching. We had a good meet between the two dogs yesterday. He is known to be really great with small children and dogs, and i have both so that was a plus. We have a two-month trial with him and if all goes well, we get to adopt him for a small fee. He is a purebred, neutered, really great. He is just a little scroungy looking cause they shaved all his hair off for a dip. I cannot wait till his hair grows back. Until my lab crosses the rainbow bridge, I will not be able to enjoy the yorkie breed, but i am going to get one one day again! |
Aww! I hope everything works out for you! Best of luck! |
Usually demodentic mange is incurable. It might subside for a while, but will come back. It is an immune problem where the body does not have the defences to keep the demodentic mange mite at bay.The vets usually use mitaban dip and the dog must go in for frequent treatments. Good luck with your new puppy and hope everything works out between both dogs. |
Congrats on your new addition, hoping things will work out:) sorry I can not be of any help with his condition. |
thanks all. Well i called a few vets around here and they told me they would give him oral ivamectin for 4-8 weeks and he should be cured. I made sure i heard this from a few vets before i decided so i hope it works. He has never had this treatment before. The dips only helped for a while, like you said. But they say this should cure it for good. marla |
Congrats in the new dog. I think you made the right decision to get a little bigger dog. Best of luck |
Congrats, and good luck with the health issues. My brother's family has a dog that had dem mange. I'm not sure if he's "cured" but he appears to be. (meaning, I don't know if it's expected to reoccur, but he seems to be over it now). |
Congratulations on your new baby, I think it's wonderful that your taking in a rescue.. especially one that has needs such as this one does. |
congrats on your new dog. What a wonderful thing you are doing. I'm sure someday you will have a very precious yorkie again, to love for many years. Your good deeds shall be rewarded :animal-pa |
