pee problems My yorkie, 8 months old, Happy, had an urinary infection. He was on antibiotics por 1 week and now he is ok. Because of that, he does not use his pad for pee and poo, and is doing that all over our carpets. I don't know how to remind him that he has to use his pad. Apparently he is afraid of the place where he was accustomed to do it. Is that a trauma for him? do I have to change the place of the pad? |
I think you have to start over and eliminate his opportunities to make mistakes. You can put him in an expen that surrounds his potty pad then give him a treat when you catch him being successful. Or you could put a belly band on him and take it off every once in awhile so he can potty where you want him to. Make a VERY big deal out of it when he does this right. good luck. |
This is a unique problem. I don't know the answer but I agree that you may have to start over and possible move the pad. |
This is the same thing cats may do w/ litter boxes. What happens is the animal starts to associate the pee area (pee pad or litter box) with pain - so they don't want to eliminate there bc of the fear of pain. So, you either have to change the spot -or- make it impossible for him to pee anywhere BUT the original spot (which re-teaches him that the spot doesn't = pain). |
