My baby will NOT let me shave his ears 3 Attachment(s) I taped Mylo's ears and the went from 1. ears looking like they wanted to go up 2. I taped them and they stayed up for 3 days 3. back to this I tried shaving them but every time I turn the shaver on he runs and hides lol. I even got my husband to try and hold him but....NO WAY! :p . I want his ears to stand but I don't think they will. What can I do? Attachment 180510 Attachment 180511 Attachment 180512 |
Gosh he's as cute as a bugs ear. He probably doesn't like the noise the clipper makes so close to his sensitive ears. Why are you shaving them? |
he's probably teething, which is why they are going up and down. i think you can keep taping them whenever they go down and eventually they'll stay up |
Do you have some very sharp hair cutting scizzors? You might try scizzor-cutting them very carefully. It probably is the noise of the clippers that he is reacting to. When training Abigail's ears (I never did tape), I began with the scizzors, and later went to a moustache trimmer. The scizzor-cutting is, indeed, a painstaking labor of love and quite unnerving. But, I got the idea from a show breeder, and it did work to help her ears pop up. She doesn't mind the small trimmer, but she did react strongly to a regular dog clipper. She actually now seems to love having her ears trimmed! When she sees them, she comes running and sits very still. I'm SOOOOOO glad this is not a fight; but, it seems to me that the trimmer would sound like bees near her ear...:eek: However, do not even try doing anything to her feet! :rolleyes: |
What I did at first with Phoebe was this. I held her in my lap (with the clippers hidden). Then I ran the clippers and gave her treats for sitting in my lap nicely. maybe that's enough for session one. The next time, I did the same thing, and touched her ears with the clippers running, but not with the cutting end. This gave her a chance to feel the vibration...I gave her lots of treats and praise. Eventually,. I got them clipped...it did take two of us the first few times. Now at age 20 months, she is a good girl about it, even though she doesn't love the grooming thing. Good luck! deb |
You might try this, my breeder friend, told me to hold the dog between your legs, so just his head is sticking out, shave them and retape them, they look like they are trying to stand. I shave mine once a week, after a while they get used to it even if they dont like it. Hope that helps. L. |
what type of clippers are you using? The little mens facial trimmers for $12 work great for their ears. Try turning them on and being in the same room with him for a little while. Give him time to get accoustomed to the noise. |
I start shaving my puppy ears around 3 weeks of age and then every other week. They are used to the clipper noise early and ears usually have no problem going up later. It is very helpful if you have a grooming table. If I have a really squirmmy puppy, I hold him between my legs and shave the ears. A good clpper is also very helpful. I use an Oster Golden A 5 two speed with a 5/8 inch blade. The clipper is quiet and the blade cuts very close. also a Whal Peanut clipper works good too. |
