Advice needed Hi Everyone!! Just in need of some advice please. I have a 3 yr. old male who isn't neutered (just scared to put him through that- he weighs 2.3 lbs.) and then I just got a 12 week old female (who I plan on spaying when she's 6 mos.- she already weighs 3 lbs. so I won't be to scared). I've had Lilly for 3 weeks now and her and Oliver get along great, but all of a sudden he won't leave her alone and wants to mount her all the time. I tried having them out at different times, but Oliver just goes nuts if he doesn't know where she's at. Isn't she to young to be in heat plus she's not spotting or anything. I've always had males with males and this is the first time I have a male and a female. Is this normal and be like this all the time or will it stop. Please help. |
This is normal. Neutering will help, but it probably won't go away entirely. I'm surprised you didn't have this happen even with only males. I have two boys (both neutered) and they still do this to each other quite often. I haven't read any medical literature on it, but have heard it explained that neutering takes away the ability but not the instinct. |
Welcome to yt and good luck with your babies. Murfee is 4 and was neutered around 6 months.........and he still humps his "lovers"....stuffed ones.:D |
My 2 female dogs did this at first. The dog we had first mounted the new dog to show that she is "top dog". Dogs do this to show dominance. |
he's probably going to act like that until you get your new girl spayed or him neutered (both would be ideal). I had my little girl spayed and she weighed under 3 pounds. |
Thanks you guys for your advice! |
