Silver pups? The lady I'm about to buy my new yorkie off of has a litter I have never seen before. There are 6 pups and 2 of them are completely silver. Is that normal? Are those dogs worth more or is it just the way the turned out? They look just like the black and tan pups but they are just silver all over. What do you guys think? I'm just wondering of I should buy one of those or stick to the black and tan. |
Yorkies are not born silver!! That is an incorrect color. I would look somewhere else, maybe go to YTCA and look under the breeders section. |
i agree with yorkiekist! All yorkshier terriers are born black and tan there is no other color! |
Is the breeder charging more for that "rare" color? |
|
She is not charging anymore for those pups. But I do know they are full yorkie because I have known this women for a long time. I even know the mother and father of these pup, Sophie and Mason. Sophie (the mother) is a black and tan but she has little pieces of silver strands that run through her coat. That silver strand the mother has is the exact color of these two puppies. The other puppies in the litter are black and tan. I have kept in touch with this women for over a year now so I know they are yorkies. They are only a week old and I was there when she had them. I was just wondering if anyone had seen a yorkie born this color. Also, the coat of these two silver dogs is healthy and shiny just like the others in the litter. |
We're not doubting that they are from full blooded parents. As stated in the link above that I gave you, it's a genetic defect. This pair should not be bred again. |
thank you for letting me know...I will pick one of the other ones then! |
The pups sounds like blue born pups. Not one that I would buy because these pup can have some major health problems. I would not buy one from that litter either if you plan to breed because the others maybe carriers. Here is a link about then. http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/Genet...Chocolate.html |
A Yorkie born completely silver:confused: Well, I know it's not normal, it's certainly not "standard", it doesn't make them worth more (if anything, I'd say less since they are not in the yorkies standard range), but it is VERY interesting. I'd love to see pictures of these babies....and their parents. Just out of curiosity. Does this lady have a website we could see them on? Hmmm, just saw the blue born post....could be. OP, is that what the puppies look like? |
No, she does not have a website but I'm going over there at 4pm today. I will take some pictures and post them. Then everyone can see them and see what you guys think. :) |
I would like to see a pic of these babies. sounds interesting. good luck with your new babie:) congrats:) |
A blue born yorkie is not at all normal. In fact, blue borns can have major problems. They usually have a thick, dry, painful skin with little hair growth. The little hair they do have is coarse and brittle...constantly breaking off. Many die at a young age as well. The breeder needs to have the mom and dad spayed and neutered, as well as those puppies as they all carry that blue-born gene. |
May be blue born pups, some people call them silver and they can have lots of health probrems. Do a search on here about them. Good luck...:) |

Welcome to YT! Congrats on deciding to get a yorkie puppy. If you decide not to buy one of the puppies from the litter you wrote about.... there are some Kentucky YT breeders that you may want to check out! Again, Congrats & Welcome! |
