OMG I am shaking like a LEAF!!! PLEASE be careful with food!!! I just had the BIGGEST scare of my life!!! OMG. My little nephew is over here and I made dinner because everyone was hungry. Tonight we just had sausage and a few sides. Well my nephew finished eating and got up to take his plate to the kitchen and he had a piece of perfectly cut ROUND sausage that he didn't eat left on the plate....well, it fell off his plate onto the floor. Mind you, the SKIN on the sausage. Well before I could jump up to get it, Tatum ran over there and got it and started chewing on it, then ran from me when I tried to take it from her. I told my hubby OMG!!! I KNOW she is going to choke on that skin!!! She ended up running over by the Christmas tree and she started choking and doing circles and FALLING OVER like she was having a seizure - OMG you guys, I AM SHAKING SO BAD. I was screaming crying freaking out, shaking like a leaf and still am. I ran to her SO FAST and stuck my fingers down her throat and pulled it out and sure enough it was a huge thing of skin from the sausage and it was stuck right in the middle of her throat. I swear to you I thought she was going to choke to death right there because she couldn't even walk, she would just fall over and was spinning around in circles like she was literally having a seizure. I am shaking so bad still that I couldn't even finish my dinner. I immediately gave her some Nutri-Cal and am holding her on my lap now. She is scared to death! I just cannot believe how fast that happened and how QUICKLY she started choking. PLEASE PLEASE be careful and watch your babies like a HAWK. It is amazing how quickly things can happen. Thank GOD I got it out in time. I am just sick at my stomach over this. OMG it was HORRIBLE to see her doing that  |
OMG...how scary!! Thank goodness you were able to save her! Pat yourself on the back for being able to react so quickly! And give that lil tater bug a big hug. |
I'm glad she's okay! |
Oh Brooke, I'm sorry! I know exactly how you feel, as one time (last Christmas Eve, in fact) Jake tried to get his collar off and had it stuck in a way that was choking him. My hubby and son got it off, but it scared me so bad that I was shaking for the longest time. Jake was scared at first, then he was totally back to normal and the incident was forgotten (by him, anyway). Since then, we never keep his collar on unless we take him out. It's so easy for these little ones to pick something up off the floor and run with it. I'm constantly checking the floor, ESPECIALLY when my grandchildren are visiting. It's sooooo scary! I'm just glad little Tatum is okay. I hope you can calm down and relax soon. I know how scared you are. Give Tatum a little snuggle from the boys and me! |
so glad you were able to save her. That could be so dangerous. These little rascals can be so fast! |
Im so glad she is OK! I dropped a chunk of Brie the other day, and Zoey snatched it like lightening. They are so fast that you can't beat them to the punch! |
OMG I am sooo glad she is ok. You did a great job saving her life, I think I would have been so freaked out that I would have forgot what to do. My babies also watch every move we make when we are eating and they will pick up something and run with it if it hits the floor. You should have the Yorkie Mommy of the Year award for not loosing it and being able to save Tatums life..:good job: |
very scary! Glad tatum is okay! I had a similar scare a few years back with my elderly bichon, we had given her a soft treat and it got stuck at the roof of her mouth, blocking her throat and she couldn't get it off with her tongue. Now we rip treats up in teeny bits |
How scary! I'm glad she's okay! Just a reminder....not just the skin, but sausage in general is very dangerous for dogs as pork products can trigger pancreatitis. We've already had a couple of Yorkies here end up hospitalized for eating a little Christmas ham. Meats such as bacon, pork, ham, sausages and deli meats have a very high fat content and this can lead to a condition called pancreatitis. Signs of this condition include loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain and lethargy and can rapidly become an emergency situation. http://admin.petpack.com.au/news/new...id=24e7_0_1277 |
OMG I'm so glad she's ok! Poor Tater!!! You were awesome-quick thinking on your feet! Tatum is so lucky to have a mommy like you!!! We've been exactly there with Emma, so I understand completely, it's horrifying-Emma did the same thing with a piece of rawhide once (I know, rawhide-but we didn't know then, we were new yorkie owners) She too was choking and screaming and her eyes rolled back and then she fell over-It was so scary!!! But, like you, DH was smart and cool on his feet, had try and pry it out of her mouth, and then he got bitten by accident, so he had to basically heimlich (sp?) Emma to get the rawhide to get out of her airway. He was successful, and saved her life, as you just saved Tatums! I'm so glad you were there to help her! Brooke, I know it's so scary, and you're completely freaked out. I'm so proud of you for knowing what to do and how to help her! Just take a few deep breaths, and kiss your Tater-Tot.. I'm so so so so so glad to know she's ok! Hugs to you!!! And..BTW, this was a great wake up call for us all-I just scolded DH, and made him listen to your story because he's always sneaking stuff to Emma and Milli that he shouldn't- thank you for posting this as a reminder for us all! |
OH Brooke!! What an awful fright for you to see your TaterTot choking like that! Thank goodness you witnessed her taking the sausage, that you were in the same room when it happened and could act as quickly as you did. Argh! I can just picture it in my head, that precious little Angel must have been scared to death. Give that sweet Angel a gentle smoosh from me, Lauren |
oh wow I'm so glad she's okay! i know it is def. scary with food, i had a scare with Sophie once and a piece of chicken, before i could grab it she snatched it so fast and it took a while to digest cause it was too big. But luckily she was fine. They are always getting into things:rolleyes: |
Oh Brooke! I thank the good Lord that little Tatum is alive, and thanks to you and your quick thinking. I know that a few times when I've had scares with my dogs, that it takes quite a while before the shaking goes away! Hugs to you and kisses to darling little Tatum!!! |
Good save and a great reminder that we have to watch them every minute! Luckily for us we have had no close calls like you did and I am sure you are still freaked out about it. I would be. |
Brooke, that had to be terrible. I'm so glad little Tate is okay and you are too!!! These little guys are so quick |
