Odd behavior before bedtime Hello I'm a Yorkie Mom of 4! I have 2 males and 2 females. I'm seeking advice or an opinion about an odd behavior my youngest female yorkie displays every evening before bedtime. She is 5 1/2 months of age and she is the youngest of all my yorkies. Going on now for 3 weeks, Lulu will start behaving odd when my husband and I start to bed. We have our yorkies to sleep in our master bedroom, yet in their own beds. My other 3 yorkies go right to their beds, but Lulu will grab a soft toy in her mouth and prowl around the room with discomfort. She whines and goes to the closed bedroom door and persist that you open it. My husband will let her out and she walks around the house with the toy still in her mouth steadily whining. She then will enter back into the bedroom and prowl around, go out the dog door, then enter back into our bedroom all the while still holding the toy and whining. My husband and I will console her by rubbing and talking to her, yet she still whines. We will get into our bed and suggest for her to go to her bed. She will sit at our bedside with the toy and whine until we pick her up. She will prowl all over the bed and then burrow under the cover. She then starts digging to make a nest, I suppose. Then she will drop the toy and lay down with relief, no longer whining. We are restless by the time she finds relief and then we find ourselves feeling sorry for the other 3 yorkies in their own beds. Therefore we put the other 3 into bed with us so that we are showing no favoritism. We are seeking your advice or opinion on Lulu's odd behavior and to HELP us find rest at night. We love our yorkies and we can't stand to see any one of them in discomfort! |
Is she alone during the day or ever? It sounds like separation anxiety, like she knows the lights are going off and you guys will be away from her (even if it is just a few feet off the floor). Just a thought...I am by no means an expert. |
Sorry I can't be of help I just wanted to welcome you to YT! |
Romeo is an only pup. He has a little stuffed chicken he does the same thing with. But he does it in the morning. He whines and whines and looks for a spot to hide it. He roams around the whole house looking for a spot to hide it. He usally ends up on the couch with it trying to dig a hole in my pillow to bury it. Then drops it and goes on his merry way. Well after 3 days of this I hid the chicken for good. No more problem.LOL |
Jake has a couple toys that he does that with, but it's not at bedtime or any particular time. He will walk around whining with the toy in his mouth until he finds a spot to "bury" it. Then, he goes on his merry ole way. |
My little Bentley did that too. Just today I posted a sad and long note about the death of my little Bentley ...on Wednesday..the day after Christmas. I am reading posts tonight because I miss him so much I don't want to settle down on the couch without him...as we would be doing now. But Bentley did the same thing with his favorite toys occasionally. He'd carry around his ' squeaky puppy' awhile and then try to bury it on the couch or on a blanket or pillow. it was so sweet to watch.. In fact he took a bone I gave him on Christmas Eve and walked all around in the house with it....whining. I finally put him out in the yard with it. He burried it in the snow. Two days later Bentley died after being hit by a car. He is now buried not far from the bone. I know it will be heart breaking to find the bone when the snow begins to melt in a few months.. because I don't think it's buried deep. |
