I am a mommy to three little girls and 2 dogs. I can tell you that I new baby takes up a lot of time. I don't know if you have any children now, but I can tell you that the love you feel for a baby is so much more than you can imagine. I would spend the whole day holding my girls and just looking at them. I did not want any one to hold them but me. I nursed all three of my girls and was up every 1-2 hours during the night the first couple of weeks. We didn't get our first dog until my first baby was about a year old (she is now 7 ). Pups do get into baby things, eating and shredding dirty diapers, licking vomit up from the floor and babys face, chewing on baby toys and binki's, wanting to sleep on top of the baby. I just got my first yorkie 8 months ago, my children are now 3, 4, &7, and my Boxer is 6. Even know it can be hard to spend quality time with all of them. |
I have made the phone call I dreaded to and told my friend that I woun't be taking the little yorkie girl home. I almost cried when I told her but u are all right, with the baby here soon, I will spend most of my time with him and obviously the other 2 furbabis.LOL Thank you everyone for the great advice. I am sure tho' u will see me with a new puppy, maybe a year from now...LOL |
Awwww, you sound heart broken. I think you did the right thing. You wouldn't want to be overwhelmed. There will be plenty of time for a new puppy after you have settled into a routine with your baby. |
I would wait until after the baby comes. Especially if this is your first. Babies take so much time and attention, I can't imagine dealing with a puppy AND a new baby at the same time. If after the baby comes you still feel ready, then go for it! Our neighbor got a puppy about a month before their first baby was born and she really had her hands full, I know she wishes she had waited. Congrats on your baby, I pray that everything goes well with the remainder of your pregnancy and the delivery.:) |

I think you should wait. You will have your hands full with a new baby and with a new puppy. It is a little overwhelming at times for me right now with trying to housebreak and constantly watching my new puppy so she doesn't get into anything. I have to get up 2 times a night and let her potty. Plus I still have Hannah and Bentley, even though they are trained already and aren't as time consuming....now lets add a infant to this....up all through the night for feeding and diaper changes for the baby and for the puppy. If the puppy starts whining it might wake up the baby, if the baby starts crying it will wake up the puppy. As much time as it takes for a new puppy, it take so much more time for a baby. I think you will be glad that you waited on a new puppy after the baby comes.....Good Luck on what ever you decide....:) :) |
