Bought a yorkie in Minneapolis,MN.now.how to get it to Vancouver Canada..ideas? HI! I just bought a little 1 year old P/B yorkie from a friend in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and I live in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Does anyone have any experience with how I can get the little yorkie to me? There is an embargo until April 1st on United Airlines flights out of Minneapolis via air cargo :( Does anyone know of any safe ground tranportation? Pet transportation? She does have to come across the border into Canada which is no problem as she will have a rabies shot and vet check certificate . Any helpideas is greatly appreciated! Thanks! She will be our second yorkie in our family because I've heard yorkies are like potatoes chips...you can never have just one...:) |
Would it be possible for you to fly in and pick the pup up, then take it on as your carryon? |
Thanks for the great suggestion but Air Canada does not have any pets as carry on any more. |
What about other airlines??? |
A good thought....Thanks.....I will Call Northwest Airlines tomorrow and inquire about their VIP Animal service and see what they say. Any other suggestions? Are there ground services that transport pets in a heated van or something that anyone knows about? |
It might be worth googling as Ive never heard of a pet taxi but Im sure something like that might exist?? Good luck on your adventure.. Dawn |
congrats, I hope you can figure out a way to get your baby, There is airlines that have heated safe flights, Iam not sure witch ones....good luck;) |
There are pet taxi type services. Whether or not they go to Canada is another story. You might try googling them. Good luck! |
If I was going to my sisters in Grand Marais I woudl go 20 min more into Canada for you but will not be going up that way until May.My sister was just downhere she would of been more than happy to give the little one a lift.We are about 2 hours from Minneapolis. I just bought a little stud about a year ago up there. Who did you get the pup from? |
From Minneapolis to Canada border is about 5 1/2 to 6 hours... |

Can you take an Alaska flight to Seattle and pick her up there.I know you can fly with them under your seat coming back.Just make sure she has a health exam 10 days before entering Canada.:) :) :) |
http://www.petsonthego.com/profpetmovers.html Just because it is ground transport doesn't mean it's cheaper....esp. with rising fuel costs. This link has several listed...along with their National Associations and links....good luck. |
Welcome to YT! |
Can you possibly drive to Seattle, fly to Colorado and pick the puppy up, fly back to Seattle and then drive home to Vancouver? I think that would be the fastest for you and you can take your little one right on board the flight to Seattle. I didn't like the idea of shipping my puppy and found that I felt a whole lot better flying out to get her, even though it was a whirlwind exhausting trip. It was a little pricey, but it got her home safely and I like to think it was less stressful for her. I know that AirCanada doesn't allow pets, but so many of the US airlines do allow them during the winter season if you have them in the cabin with you. |
