We recently moved into an Apt complex that took pets. I feel it was well worth the $500 deposit and extra $25 rent. It is a luxury apartment and only 1-2 years old. But I LOVE having other dogs around, it has been a lot of fun to "make friends" with the other dogs. Keeley loves hearing them bark too. He gets so excited. We were in a non pet apt for a month as when we were in between apartments. And it sucked to have to hide him. I was so worried about him being loud, or looking out the window at the wrong time, that I don't think he was able to really be himself. Every complex is different and more strict then others. I hope everything works out for you. Good Luck. |
I thought this thread title sounded familar. It's a resurreacted thread from last July....not a current situation  |
Bklyn I also live in BKLYN. Everyone in my building has a dog even though we shouldn't. I don't think it will be a big deal. If its a big building no one will notice. |
My apartment is in three family house. I watch my friend's yorkie two weekends a month. I know my downstair neighbors have seen him with me, but not the upstair one. I am sure they have heard him bark or two. My landlord said no when i asked her. She didn't give me a good reason. I was hoping that she would give me an exception since I have lived here long and she was a yorkie owner. Of course it became disappointment. I still would like to get one for emotional support. Plus I work in domestic violence organization, so I think it would be good for me to bring a dog to work too. Dogs are best therapist. I really like alternative ways to mental health. I know some cases, medication is required, but there are tons of alternative ways to help people to feel better. And dogs have done that part to me, they made a lot of impact to me. Now I am having rough time with my life, I would like to have a dog any time.. without begging my friend to have her dog for the weekend. I am really looking into a service dog option. |

I like hearing different people's experiences. So thanks for posting in this forum. I am sure some people are in debate about having a yorkie in "no pet" apartment and not only just me. I know this was a bit old forum that I brought it up again.. I was talking to my boyfriend, he is very supportive about me wanting a yorkie. He was surprised how much the yorkie, whom I watch often, made positive impacts in my life. He definitely thinks that I should have a dog. But then yesterday he said to me, "Michiko, you are rigid about following the rules and law, you are an ethicist. That is something I always look up to you about and I have learned so much. So I don't want you to change on that. So we will find the right way to have a dog." By the way the reason I am an ethicist is that my name, Michiko, with Japanese language, means "an ethicist". I guess I always have tried to follow things as much as I can. So I guess he is right. So I will really look into a service dog option or I move to different apartment. I wish there were options for pet deposit here, then i would have definitely done that. |
