It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

And, then, along this same line, is the American Folk tradition, that my generation grew up with: Sadie Hawkins Day. Some of the members here, will remember the Sadie Hawkins Day school dances. Kinda gave the guys a bit of insight to how girls felt, who were left waiting by the phone! :p
Now, you girls who have 'captured' the attentions of your heart-throb, be sure and add him to your siggie, to let the other ladies know he is taken! We don't want any 'cat' fights on our peaceful YT! Remember, Yorkie ladies are well-bred. I know Abigail would not like it if anyone started making eyes at her Coffee! And, you gents who have your eye on a particular sweetie...hey! Don't wait, just 'cause it's Leap Year! Get out there, an' git yer gal, while there's still time! |
