question for all what kind/brand of dog food do you recommend for puppies learning to eat dog food. Having some problems with the natural balance with the little ones. Doesnt seem to agree with them. Got poopies..........They are on bland diet now but thought I would see what everyone else uses when they wean. Thanks for any help you can offer Linda |
I have great luck and no poopy problems with Chicken Soup Puppy. The ingredients are great and the dogs love it, even the picky ones. |
We use California Natural Lamb and Rice puppy food. |
do you have puppies you are trying to get them to eat dog food? if so this is what I did ..I bought puppy formal and put it over soft dog food . than slowly (puppy chow) mixed hard dog food into the mixture and started to take away formal than soft food it work great..I was told it is normal for stool to be abnormal when changeing there diet |
When my pups are about 4 weeks old I just grind up some dry puppy food in a blender until it looks like corn meal. I put a small bowl of this ground food in the pen with the mom and the pups and the pups usually always start licking and eating the food right away. The moms might eat it too but that is o.k. because they will be teaching the babies to eat out of a bowl. This method has worked great for me for years and I have shared it with other breeders and they said it worked great for them too. Be sure to leave a small bowl of water also. You can leave the ground food out all the time and the pups will slowly learn to eat. As they get older then you can start feeding them the unground kibble. Always feed a high quality puppy food. I use Canidae and Chicken Soup. When my pups are about 5 weeks old I start adding a little canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice to the ground food to make a moist meal and I give them that twice a day but I also leave the ground dry food out. How old is your puppy? If your puppy has the poops you must make sure it is not Coccidiosis because that can be deadly. |
thanks, they are 5 weeks. We have done poop tests, and they are on medication, nothing in the stool so were thinking that the natural balance just didnt agree with them, although they liked it. Im going to keep giving them the baby food and rice cereal along with the medicine until poop clears up, then will try the chicken soup I think, and will grind up as you suggested. Thanks, Linda |
