I don't like that they're being treated as an accessory, but I'm sure that a lot of their owners really do love them. I'm glad that these celebrities are getting the unconditional love that they might need in their lives. Hollywood is a NASTY place. It must be good to have a friend that will love you no matter how much "weight" you gain, or who you were seen at a party with. EDIT: and a lot of the people on here take their yorkies everywhere with them. The only difference is that they're not in the spotlight. :)

Very true! I believe that the people on that page really love their babies, and its important to note that. But the bad thing that comes from that, is that people will buy yorkies to keep up with celebrity trends, rather than because it is the right breed for them.

That is definetly true. and that's a major downside to it. :( But sometimes (no one inparticular) people on here act like because they are celebrities, they obviously aren't fit to be dog parents. Which isn't necessarily true, ya know?

Well, at least these celebs aren't supporting the backyard breeders that intentionally breed mixes anymore. I can't stand the whole "designer" dog fad :thumbdown However, now a lot of them are supporting backyard breeders breeding yorkies...probably not much better

You're right..I'm sure a lot of celebrities love their dogs. A lot of people give Paris Hilton a lot of flack...but I've never seen her rehome any of her dogs. I was very disspointed when she bought one of her chihuahuas from Bel Air Pet store :thumbdown but other than that I think she really loves her pets.

Now Britney Spears pisses me off because she has rehomed and replaced her dogs a few times...that's just wrong. It's one thing to rehome a pet because you have no choice but it's another to rehome them and then replace them

These threads always annoy me. Yorkies are by no means rare. They're the number one toy dog in America. I do not see how celebs having them will make them any more popular than they already are. :rolleyes: However, if they were rare, there'd probably be a million threads on how to locate one. :confused: :thumbdown :mad:

its not that they are rare..... its that now everyone (esp) little girls will now go out & get one because its the hott new thing to do & then when they get bored they just dump the dog somewhere & bybs & puppymills pop out more dogs to keep up with the fashion statement which not only ruines the breed these poor dogs suffer because yorkies are the new thing !:thumbdown

I agree that might happen, some owners may be good even if seeing a celeb sparked the interest in the breed they buy, but who's to say it's not happening already? They were bybs and petshops before Britney or Paris were born. Also, even if a person buys from a good breeder, who's to say said person won't just give it to the pound? I know a full grown woman who bought a toy poodle some years ago just on her own. Got sick of it and gave it to the pound. BYBS, petshops, and dogs getting treated babdly are not 100% the celeb's fault. That's my point.

A reputable breeder will require anyone who buys a puppy from her to sign a contract promising that they will return the dog to her if for any reason they can't keep him so they don't end up in shelters.

You are absolutely right that byb's and pet shops are not the fault of celebrities. The blame lies with people who see a celebrity with a particular breed and don't do their homework before running out to buy one.

That doesn't mean the owner will. What if the owner lives out, or moves, out of state? I'm just saying a lot of things can, and do :( , happen and it's not one person or breeder's fault.
