? about yorkies How do you keep them from getting car sick? |
I can't help you with this one. Fritzel gets sick every time he rides in a car. |
My oldest Diva used to get sick as a puppy...but I found that the more frequent the rides, the quicker they get over car sickness. I have a 8 mth old who still gets sick sometimes when she goes for car rides..but it's not all the time..so I've started taking her a ride every day...like even on a trip to the gas station...so not sure if this is the case but just try to continue taking her for a ride as often as possible and hopefully when she's/he's used to it, the vomiting will stop. Also, try to make sure he/she hasn't had anything to eat at least an hour or so before a ride....at least not until they're not vomiting anymore. Hang in there...everything's a learning process and we just have to go with the flow. Maybe byou can mention it to your vet also and see what he/she has to offer. Good Luck |
I don't have this problem with my yorkie - as he is crazy about going bye bye, but we did have a maltese that would get sick at the mention of taking a ride. The vet told us to give her half of a motion sickness pill like dramamine. This did the trick for her (also made her kinda sleepy, but it was well worth it considering the alternative). You should definitely confirm this with your vet and get a recommendation based on your yorkies weight, but Sophie was about 5-6lbs and we gave her half of one. It worked like a charm. The vet also said this was a common problem with puppies and that they outgrow it. Sophie didn't, but if yours is still a puppy, it may be something that gets better with time. |
Ellie used to get sick but now she gets half a ginger snap before we leave and it has worked great so far.:) |

We didn't feed them before cartrips. They do out grow it. |
Wobie doesn't throw up as much when he is inside his carrier, and can't see out the window. I also keep the air conditioner on pretty high. I also take him on a long run right before putting him in the carrier, so he hopefully sleeps through the ride. I get carsick really easily too, so I can sympathize with him. :( He takes car rides several times a week, at least, and he gets carsick about once or twice a week. |
Riddick use to get sick all the time when I'd keep him in his crate. And if he couldn't look outside.. I use to give him a little bit of Pepto Bismol about a half hour before going in the vehicle. It worked like a charm. You can get some stuff from WalMart that is just for that also.. Riddick no longer gets sick in the vehicle.. He loves going for rides.. If I can find the name of the stuff from Walmart that I bought and never used, I'll let you know.. I remember it saying "Calm" on the box.. But that is all I remember at the moment!!;) |
I hope your little one outgrows it, another alternative is benedryl. I have a child who get's car sick and that helps with him as well. |
