Biting into the Walls?!! yes, Sassy has gotten into the Bad Habit of chewing into the walls while I'm out of the house!!! I'm not sure if shes upset that I'm gone, or if she just gets bored. I'm not too sure what to do? Has anyone Had this problem? I've considered getting a kennel & Locking here in there while I'm gone.... But its also so Hard for me to do because I'd Hate to Have her Locked in such a small space for a while! [yes, she is SO spoiled! LOL.] any suggestions? |
I suggest putting her in a wire crate or x-pen while you are gone. I used a crate for Lacy when she was younger..she could climb right over an x-pen. As long as you're not away for too many hours, a crate works really well. She'll most likely sleep the whole time you are gone anyway. |
You should see my hallway, several perfectly round little concavities in the drywall. How do they do that?? Needless to say I don't leave them gated in the hallway when I am gone anymore. |
Sounds like a crate or x-pen is the way to go. Good luck! |
When abigail was teething, she chewed the baseboard in the den, and through the kitchen door! Yes!! Of course, the door was water-damaged (we replaced it with a steel one); but, we had to put up a baby gate for awhile to keep her from chewing clean through and escaping! Her wall/door chewing disapeared when she lost her puppy teeth. |
My husband had a Lhasa Apso that chewed through his drywall and clawed up the hardwood floors by the front door while he was gone. His vet said she had separation anxiety. He put her in a crate while he was gone and she was so nervous that she broke off every single tooth at the gum line trying to chew herself out of the crate. I would suggest you read up on separation anxiety and try to get her to overcome that. When we got married and combined our doggy families all of her separation anxiety vanished. She never chewed again and was perfectly fine. We noticed that she had a new mission in life to try to control my two dogs and we think it took her mind off of the separation anxiety. I don't know if getting a second baby would help but it helped my husband's dog. Good luck! |
Yup, Romeo chewed a hole right in the drywall. We didn't see him cause it was under his play pen. One day we were looking for him and we heard little scratching sounds and it was him chewing the wall. LOL |
Yep Mika did it too, but I put a TV and stand in fromt of her construction area where she couldn't get to it and surprisingly she did not start a new one. I got her one of those Kong things and some CET chews and Nyla bones, and now that she has some "legitmate" stuff to do, she has left the wallpaper and floor moldings alone. |
my bichon did this too....I crated her til she grew out of it. |
chewing the wall My Binky and Fergie did a real job on the kitchen wall. We will now replace the bottom half of the wall with panneling. Hopefully they have outgrown the urge to chew everything. |
Yep, Otis did the same thing he chewed on the trim in the hallway walls. he chews on my rugs, and has even tried to chew on the carpet in the living room. I have noticed that he is not doing it as much as he used to, he just turned 6 months old, so he may be growing out of it and also I have bought him alot of things that he is allowed to chew on... I was wondering the other day if anyone else had this same problems with their babies or if it was just Otis. Thanks, for answer my question also,... |
Welcome to YT!! I would get a pen or wire cage to put your baby in while your away... good luck! |
Puppy Kongs 2 Attachment(s) we had the same problem with Stormy We tried Puppy Kong Teething Rubber Formula & the Puppy Kong Spray treat inside every morning - no more eating sheetrock walls! I also made sure she had all of her chew toys with her every morning also. They have them at PetSmart, Petco & Target I have never crated my babies. They get the kitchen, hallway, hall bath & laundry Room to run around & play when we are not home. |
Yup, first time I heard of this was over christmas when my friend showed me her walls,. her yorkies did a good job it too.. now I am hearing so many more cases, have had yorkies for 18 years, and never heard of that. guess I was lucky. LOL pooh's mum |
Katy did this when she was young too. I stuck a big rock right in the spot she was chewing and left it there for a few months. I really thought she would start it some where else but she didn't. Good luck. |
