TROUBLE on the HOME FRONT Please don't think I am crazy or anything but I think my husband is seriously jealous of my Yorkie baby Rocco. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and together for 12. We have 2 children ages 8 and 2. I cannot even explain to you how busy and hectic my life is. My husband works nights so I am for the most part a single mom 5-6 days a week. SO with that said by the time I get a chance to sit down in the evenings (usually around 10 or so) my little Rocco, whom requires very little of me but food and love is always right there ready for "our" time which for me just seems to wash away the worries and stresses of the day. Rocco also sleeps with me which is a huge comfort to me not to have to be in the huge bed everynight by myself when my husband is at work. Have any of you had problem with spouse jealousy over your dog? Again, I know this sounds crazy but for me my short times when it's just Rocco and I are so special to me and as I said before he sometimes seems to be the only one in my household that isn't constantly demanding something from me. Does this make me a horrible mother and wife???? Thanks in advance for your opinions. Shelly |
No, it doesn't sound like you're a bad mother/wife...and NO, i have never heard of a hubby getting jealous over dogs, kids yes..How does your hubby feel abou the dog sleeping with you? That may be a problem..it was with my hubby, and yes, my hubby loves dogs, but, feels they make dog beds for a reason, and I do have to agree there..I love my dogs, but, when it's time for bed, both my husband and me together, get all 4 of them in to their beds, give them their belly rubs, cover them up, and tell them goodnight, then we got and get in our beds....and as far as traveling, I know where you're coming from, we've been married 31 years, and my husband has traveled for 24 of those years...I had 3 kids that I pretty much raised on my own..dogs are a lot of company when he's gone, but, even then, the dogs still sleep in their beds, and I sleep alone(after 31 years, I like the bed to myself..) |
I'm not married, but all my pets sleep with me and always will. Whoever I marry just has to get used to it! I'm sure your husband will get over any jealousy he has |
Thank you hha.............I feel better knowing I am not the only one in the world that acts like a single mom part of the time. Don't get me wrong my husband LOVES Rocco too but we also have a dachshud that we have had for several years and he and my husband are very close but he doesn't sleep with us. To be honest I don't know that I can give up my baby sleeping with me though. I enjoy his company when I am all alone. |

My husband with the military was always gone,:( so the dogs were my comfort and my company, I was never alone when he was on the road with the military going someplace. :2smileys: So when he makes fun of me, sometimes I have wondered if the jokes were actually sometimes serious. I remind him that while I was alone for many years, one year he was gone 310 days. :( :( So when I remind him of how I even got involved and so attached to my yorkies was due to being alone to begin with., I looked after the home the bills, and was not a wife who overspent so he never had to be brought back because of financial problems, and I was always there when he got home. Many times he would tell me that a guy got home to an empty with a wife and the kids gone. |
My husband tells me all the time that I love my babies more than him :p He also says that if he and the babies were asleep and the house caught on fire in the middle of the night, I'd run for the babies before I'd run for him LOL  He is so funny :p He just jokes around with me though because he knows how crazy nuts I am about my babies :p I hope that your hubby will get over his jealousy, sometimes men are just big 'ol babies! :p |
My husband's business has him out of town 6 months out of the year:( Always Jan thru June. He's gearing up to go again an I'm glad to have my little guy with me this year. He doesn't sleep with me right now because I'm afraid hubby will squish him. He's a very deep sleeper. But, I get lonely having to sleep alone so much and Tucker will probably end up in bed this with me. Hubby probably won't like that when he gets back:rolleyes: I agree with you about the kids too. My dog never demands anything of me, doesn't argue with me and can't talk! (Ha Ha. I have a four year old girl that is non-stop!) So, sometimes I feel like a bad mother too, but my dog helps me to relax. I love my husband and my child, but I usually cannot relax around them. And that's why I love my dog so much! |
LOL I was a single Mom 5 days a week, it was hard at times, and actually, back then, I didn't have any dogs as we were renting, but, like I said, now, when he's gone, I thoroughly love having the bed to myself..we tried the dogs sleeping with us about 3 nights a couple years ago, I did not sleep well, as they were right up next to me, now I have hot flashes, and of course, hubby is always cold and wants to cuddle..I do think I need my own bed...Plus, I'll never forget the time my sisters dog had diarrhea on her pillow one night, and guess whos nose ended up in it? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the dogs nose...:(..... |
No you are not crazy..because BOB is my special buddy..but he does require and demand lots of attention but I dont mind. He cant do for himself..My husband..well..he can and thats that. I sleep with Bob and look forward to every single minute with him..Oh occasionally during the day I might think about my husband but mostly its Bob. What is he doing? Is he missing me? Hope hes not bored..etc...Husband can take care of himself.. Also my husband doesnt run down the driveway at full speed to greet me..Nope..Sorry.. Bob wins! |
DH loves Abigail more than he's willing to admit :p ; but, he does get perturbed when she won't let him in his own bed. LOL |
I'm not married but my bf gets jealous over my baby that is probably preventing him for go to the next step. (marriage) I understand his feeling but also I can't lie about my feeling toward my fur baby. I REALLY love her to death. I don't know if my relationship will end up marriage or just dating, but I will never give up on my dog because she was with me before I met him. Think this way, your husband really loves you and that is a fortunate thing. There are so many marriage without love after few years, so you are lucky to have a husband who loves you!!! |
I'm convinced my boyfriend is jealous of Wobie as well. We have had tons of fights over the time I spend with Wobie, how I treat Wobie, etc. I love my boyfriend, but it does get irritating. He knows I'd choose Wobie over him. |
Congratulations on being married for 10 years. It sounds lilke your husband need a little special attention. He works hard and you have 2 kids and on top of that a few dogs. Don't ignore what your instincts are telling you. Regardless of whether it is the dog getting more of your time, I truly believe you both should take time for yourselves and your relationship outside of your dependents. My BF has an uncle with three boys (10,7,6). Everytime I see them, the parents are ragged taking their boys to their various hobbies as well as their demanding jobs. They always look tired and everything they do is around the boys including vacations. I rarely see them even looking at each other amorously. I have seen his uncle eyeing some young honeys passing by. They are a great family but I think it is a mistake to take anything for granted. They should make time for each other. I know you want your Yorkie to sleep with you every night but maybe you can set one night for just you and your hubby and let him know that you are doing this to remind him how special he is to you. Of course, I hope he does things to make you feel special too. He is very lucky to have a wife that takes care of all you do. |
