What is a "IFFY WEBSITE" ?
 

I saw this in a recent comment in a thread about a website. My question is what is a IFFY WEBSITE? When a buyer to be is looking at YTs on a website what should they be looking for? Are we just looking at how glitzy the site looks or what?

My personal answer to that would be.. if they sell more than 2-3 breeds, than they're pretty iffy to me. Or, if they use the term teacup and their pricing on these "teacups" are outrageously high.

If its a website selling puppies, to me it would not be ok if they were selling the puppies right then and there, like you pay your deposit online without even talking to the breeder. A lot of breeders have websites but don't sell them online, you have to be interviewed.

I agree with Britt and Natalie and also I would find it suspect if they always have puppies available.

I believe that was my comment didnt know how to word it without hurting peoples feelings. Some people say well those people live in a teeny tiny town or wow they have a lot of litters at once...i have no idea how to tell i just want a healthy happy puppy

"Iffy" to me is a site that has multiple breeds & the site always having puppies available. Also breeders whom's "stories" change and will tell you one thing and then later something different. Accepting Credit cards & paypal spooks me . I also agree with Brittany's comment about the deposits. Charging ridiculous prices. I recommend anyone researching a breeder to also google the breeders or kennels name. Tweek your key words and see what kind of info you can find. Someone mentioned Jeff Dane earlier, he sells tons of pups, always has many available, sells several breeds I'm sure he has sold healthy , cute pups but I can't even began to tell you how many negative things are out there about him. I counted 29 available pups on just one ( he has several) of his sites. He's selling Poms, ****zus, Yorkies, Poodles, Chihuahuas and mixed breeds on this particular one..haven't checked his other sites today. I'm using his site as an example of one that screams "iffy" to me. Here are some of the hits I found on him. I must say that I have read about him for several years now on several dog related websites and many forums. When you see something like you need to be very careful and make sure this is the breeder you feel good about buying from. The following are hits I found on the web about this breeder.

I think the term is synonymous with "questionable" or it has a lot of "red flags" or areas of concern that might make you want to ask a lot questions and that the answers to those questions may not be what you want to hear.

My concern was that someone new to the breed and someone new to the forum will look at these postings and become confused. We throw a lot of terms out and those terms can have a slight twist to each memeber and our set of values. New folks will look at these posts and use them to help determine thier set of values

In another thread a broker was described as anyone who helps another sell their puppies. They might be a friend you help, it can be someone who conatct you and wants to buy your litter- we never did agree what classified a broker.
Terms and names get sticky when we throw them out and each of us use them with a different meaning.

I was afraid that a new member would look on the for sale wanted pape and see a posting that has been placed by a member of a classifed or internet ad and think that is was an endorsement or a refferal when in fact the member is just stating " hey look at what I found". Memebrs stated that we should be very careful about who is allowed to advertise on the forum in the - for sale section- good idea and I agree- but we are defeating our own - when we place those ads that we know nothing about the breeder for all to see because we can be placing the very folks that you do not want on the forum front and center.

Anyway I do share your concern that newbies coming on or people in the searching stage whom may not have experience in finding a pup will come in here and assume that any add on this site would assure them that it's a reputable breeder. I'm sure ther are some good sites advertised here and I know we have some good breeders on the forum. But we have know way of knowing if every add is indeed a good one. I feel that if any add is allowed that we are endorsing these people. I just don't want to be responsible for directing anyone to an "iffy" breeder. Sure don't want them coming back with a mixed pup, a puppy that was not what they expected, a sick pup or dead puppy and posting that they found the breeder here, found the add here and assumed that if it was on this site , it had to be reputable.

Someof those posts are just questionable...how can you plan on getting a yorkie and have no money...and then get defensive when asked about vet bills?...How many people posted about teacups and no puppy over 2lbs?..WHAT!!!..Maximus was over 2.5 lbs at 12 weeks and so FRAGILE...I would be scared if he would of stayed that little!!

Remember that some mills like Brushy Creek have separate websites for each breed so they don't look suspicious.

Like.... www.yorkiecity.com and www.westiecity.com, www.shihtzucity.com , etc. You can pretty much put in any breed with the word "city" after it and find Brushy Creek's puppies.

I may be wrong and probably am, but I would think IFFY WEBSITE would mean that the website may not be what is seems. More on the shady or iffy side.

Thanks- you expressed what I was trying to say and get across to people new to the breed or in the process in finding the YT that they want.
