Well you know I told you guys how my co-workers tease me about being on here and eating drinking and sleeping Yorkie right....well I am now in touch with this breeder and she requires two letters of reference before she will even CONSIDER you for one of her babies...I wish you could have been there when I asked two people to write me a letter of reference to buy a dog:D

Now there's one I haven't heard of before. :D Maybe you should in turn get two of her adoptees to write a refrence on her as well. ;)

LOL! I'm sure it wouldn't be THAT hard to get 5 or so excellent references for the breeder if you needed to... Let me know if I need to start my letter!

Well you know I have been looking around A LOT, and other breeders have extensive interview and written application forms. so it is about the same. I kind of like the idea that they won't just give their babies to someone who had the right pile of money.

Take for example poor little Sassy who is probably caged up as we speak.

Oh I understand and I would be fine with giving a breeder references but I think having the references write out something is a bit much

Sassy is a very expensive, and by all accounts, adorable yorkie who was purchased as a birthday gift for a 10 year old. The daddy of the house did NOT want a dog, and he is not happy, but on top of that, 10 year old is NOT taking care of Sassy. She has had several warnings, and Sassy spends most of her time in a pin. A co-worker told the mother about me , and she told me she was going to bring Sassy to me. The daughter threw a fit, and on the day I was expecting to have her in my arms she called and said she was giving the daughter "one more chance." In the meantime Sassy spends mose of her time locked up because Daddy does not like her, and she is not trained.

I have never heard of someone asking for reference, that is just to funny. I think I would be looking else where. Good luck

That's great that she asked you for references. A good breeder is very picky about about where her puppies go. You should expect to be asked a lot of questions and provide references, even vet references if possible, from a reputable breeder.

A reputable breeder will also ask you about your spouse, children and lifestyle to see if a Yorkie is a good fit for your lifestyle. It works both ways. Good breeders expect to get a lot of questions about themselves, their breeding program, etc. These are all good signs. What you don't want is someone who just wants to make sure you put the right number of zeroes on your check and hands over a puppy no questions asked.

Sounds like you are finally on the right track in your search for your Yorkie!

Aaaaaand, I got a list of people to call who purchased puppies in the past from Abigail's breeder. And, yes, I did call. I also got her vet #.

LOL i can totally relate!! my co workers were getting sick of hearing me talk about my future yorkies when i was getting ready to adopt one!!!

well it worked because bentleys breeder asked for 3 letters of recommendation...and said she would supply references from the other pups she had sold, her vet, the AKC breeder document (that says she is recognized by the AKC as a breeder of yorkies), etc. etc...i took this as a very good sign that she wants a good home for her babies :D

needless to say, they wrote GLOWING letters to her and copied me on them...basically they both said i talked nonstop about getting a puppy, how i was going to care for them, what a good mommy i would be, the costs related to health and vet visits, etc ;) :thumbup:

Oh my word! Are you kidding me! Poor Sassy, that just breaks my heart. I hope that family comes around and you can have her.

I brought two reference letters because I had a young daughter from people that had been around Emma and then a also had the vet reference. I don't think that it is so crazy, but my family thinks I am a little nuts because every other word that comes out of my mouth is yorkie, I don't mind being yorkie obsessed :rolleyes: I am happy that you found your new puppy, I feel like when the breeder cares that much it gives you more peace of mind and you know that you are giving support to someone that only wants to better the breed. Can't wait to see pictures.

Can you see me with 3 of them running around here until daughter makes her big move..then two I think would be managable. Now that I have made moves to get one of my own...watch Sassy's folks finally give her the home she deserves.

Girl the baby is 8 weeks old now, and I sent this lady like 5 emails today asking her if I can make the 3 hour drive to come visit. I think this might work out for me.... and thank you YT member who hooked me up with this breeder.
