Had a big scare yesterday - I'll try and make this as short as possible. My husband is disabled - He has a bad back and has had a few heart attacks - so he is the stay at home dad for my skin kids and my pups. The weather being the way it is - my entire front lawn is a sheet of ice - that's usually where we walk Baxter. So I warn him yesterday - stay off the lawn - (he had a fall the other day walking the dog and it was not as frozen as it was yesterday) Anyways - he listens - but decides to venture down the driveway to the mailbox - Driveway looked pretty good -but when he got to the street - the black ice got him - and down he went - this time straight on his tail bone on ice and cement. Poor guy is on many pain pills to begin with - but the pain was BAD - really BAD as he puts it - As he falls - he drops the leash- the retractable kind - the kind that when you let go - it chases Baxter - and Baxter is running for his life - straight out of my yard - to the neighbors - We never let him off his leash - we just don't have that kind of control over him - as much as we try, we don't. I can't even imagine what is going thru my husbands mind at this time. He sees the dog running - and he has fallen and can't get up - He yells for Baxter and the good baby that he is- I guess hearing the urgency in his voice - comes running back - leash in tow - and sits right on his lap - my husband was able to get himself up and get into the house - all he could do is kiss that dog!!!!!!! As I was driving home all these thoughts of what if's kept coming to mind - I pray for anyone that has a missing pup - I can't imagine going to bed last night without knowing he was safe and warm - I know I'm a lucky one cause he was snuggled up right next to me - but something like this can scar you for life. In a second everything can change - Enjoy every second you can !!!! |
:( I'm so sorry this happened to your husband and furbaby! Thank goodness Baxter came back!!!! I can just imagine how terrified your husband must have been...not to mention the pain he must have been in. Hope your hubby is feeling better today. |
So sorry to hear your husband fell, falling smack on your tailbone is the worst pain!! I'm glad your pup is safe! |
I hope hubby isnt in too much additional pain from his fall. Baxter your a good boy for comming back to help daddy get up! |
Ouch! It hurt me just to read it. I hope your hubby feels better and happy that your baby was such a good boy! |
I'm thrilled the outcome was positive for your pup, but I sincerely hope your DH will feel better real soon. |
Yes, that was quite a scare for both your husband and your Yorkie. I am glad they are both safe and sound. I live in NY also and the ice is not to be believed! When walking Buddy in the past winters I have fallen several times and worry about breaking a hip. This past couple of days have been a nightmare walking him. Everything is prue ice. I do hope some melts today but does not re-freeze again tonight which makes it even worse. Tell hubby to be very careful. I envy those who's little ones go on a pee- pad this time of year. |
That's so scary! I'm so glad that Buddy is such a good little guy; they really do know when they need to come back I think! I hope your dh will not be in too much more pain than usual; I feel so lame now for when I used to complain about a LITTLE black ice once in a great while:( . |
Tail bone injury is the absolute worst! I hope your husband feels better soon! |
I am sorry to hear about your hubby's fall and hoping for a speedy recovery. I am very glad your little baby is safe at home:thumbup: |
Blessings on your husband and a speedy recovery. |
hugs for the guys |
Oh my gosh that accident could have been so much worse. Thank you Lord that it wasn't. I'll bet poor hubby is sore today. My prayers are with him. |
Thanks so much for all the well wishes - I did speak with him (dh) a little bit ago- He's very sore - but will be fine. As for Baxter - He has no clue - just feeling more love (not sure that's even possible). Enjoy your Holidays!!!!!! and be careful |
Sorry for your hubby glad Baxter is safe ...take care |
Way to go Baxter! Hope your Hubby is not too sore. |
I can relate to how you must be feeling. I can't imagine what kind of shape I'd be in if any one of my dogs was missing. But Adie is so special and tiny and gets cold so easily! My husband is also disabled with a rotten back. He has had three back surgeries. He is also on mounds of pain killers. Fortunately he has a strong heart. I hope your husband is doing alright now. Poor guy. |
