Carrots question I've read where some Mommies give their Yorkies carrot sticks for snacks. Do you give them raw carrots or are they cooked? What size do you cut them? Harley is 6 months old and I'm afraid he will choke on them. When do you start letting them have these type snacks? :xmastree:  |
Amber gives Mika raw baby carrots, she loves them, but I hope we are doing the right thing. I will be following this thread. |
I give the girls raw baby carrots Emma is 11 months old and Tia is 5 months old and they have never had any problem with them. |
lots of people give whole baby carrots. I wouldn't. If i were to give carrots i'd puree them first to make it easier to digest. dogs do not have the ability to break down veggies and if you look at their poop after feeding a few carrots you will notice them come out as they go in. |
Zoey ate some diced raw carrots and they did come out just like they went in. She had some trouble passing them. I think it frightened her more than anything. I give carrots every day, but they are steamed and chopped into small mushy pieces. |
I give mine cooked carrots |
I once gave Monday chopped up carrots for a while when she was being fussy about her food, about 3 years ago. She passed them okay and her poop came out ORANGE. :2omg: Now that she has settled down and is eating her doggy food, I do not give them to her. but it was funny seeing the poop in Technicolor. I also had given her chopped up broccoli. The uncooked carrots are also supposed to be good for their teeth. But a dog biscuit can do the same thing I guess. |
Besides carrots....frozen peas are awesome for our little ones. Izzy loves frozen peas for extra, healthy snacks...especially in the summer.;) |
carrots are good for them(cooked or raw), but, if they're raw, you want to make sure they are cut very small for them..the shredded ones would probably be the best. |
I give raw...Furgie loves them! |
I always cut the baby carrots into little coins before feeding them to Buddy. But he dosen't like them anymore. I just bought the diced cooked ones in a can. I am going to try that in his food. I understand they are good for them. |
I buy the packaged baby carrots and cut them into half . . . so far I have not seen any problems . . .but should I be concerned? I do see a few in their poop  but they are well chewed :) |
All my babies love carrots. :D I do cut them in tiny pieces and they like them even more cooked. :) |
All of my angels love baby carrots. I let Codie and Tia chew the baby carrots whole but since Cali is so tiny, I have to cut her baby carrots into tiny little pieces. Sometimes I even shred them and it makes it so much more easier for Cali to eat them. |
im starting to work veggies and some fruits and meat into dexter's diet and he is 5 months. everything is cooked right now for easy digestion and he doesnt get it every day. my vet told me to work veggies into his diet slowly, but it is good to do so :) |
