Who's female marks? I think Bitsy is beginning to mark :( I took Bitsy to the indoor dog park yesterday and she started lifting her leg to pee on the corners of the posts. She's never done that before, she has always been a squatter. A beagle peed in one corner of the room, Bitsy went over there and made sure she peed on top of his pee  One of the girls who works in the dog park told me that Bitsy is marking. She said it's not very common in females, but it happens with dominant females. Bitsy is 5 and a half months old, so I called the vet today to see how quickly I can get her in for her spay. I was originally planning on having her spayed at 8 months so he can pull any leftover baby teeth, but with this marking thing, I want to do it sooner rather than later so hopefully this will help nip it in the bud. Bitsy still squats to pee on her indoor pee pads though, thank goodness. Who else has a female dog that marks or lifts her leg to pee? |
Baby marked when we first got her. When we took her for a walk, she would want to squat every 5 seconds. |
Bella marks any and everything.... SHe is 2 and a half, spayed, and still marks. She is the worst in a perstore, she lets the world know she has been there for sure! She marks worse than my male does, and he is intact! Oh and Bella also hikes. |
Millie is spayed since before 6 mos and she marks all the time. Not in the indoors, but when we go for walks she sniffs other dogs and marks on top of their smells. She also pees every five seconds on our walks. Female and male dogs mark. I don't think it's as rare as the vet thinks and I am not convinced it has anything to do with their alpha status either. (but I'm not a professional, either:rolleyes: ) |
I have a female that does. She doesn't really lift her leg more than she does when she pees normally, but she does pee on top of the other dogs pee. She follows them around outside till they pee, then it's her turn. I have started taking her out alone so she doesn't bug the other dogs. |
Bella only marks on our neighborhood walks. we call it a driveby squat because she never stops walking. So far never inside, or a petstore and she hasnt hiked ...yet~ |
I've got a shih tzu that is going on 10, she goes outside and goes around the whole yard doing that, she's worse than my male..and who said females don't mark????:D |
Hoku marks also, but only outside on our walks. |
London marks but only outside. She does handstands lol However at a dog meetup the other day someone said "Is this a male with the dress?" I look around and see London. i was like that's a girl. She was lifting up her legs LOL She's a weirdo |

LOL! I have a 12 year old Maltese named BitsyRoo, who marks outside. She is spayed and lifts her leg when she does it. When we walk, she acts like a male and sniffs out the poles and trees. She has never done this inside though. |
my parents have two shist tzu (sp?) who mark inside and outside. They are 2 years old and spayed. Slowly my parents have been replacing the carpet with hard wood because it seems like they prefer to mark on the carpet when inside. I have two boys, a boxer, and 7 month yorkie who only mark outside. Even when my boys are at my parents house they will sniff the spots that are marked by my parents dogs , but still would never go in the house. |
Maggie will back her hind end up a tree or post as high as she can get it to over-mark another scent. Handstand urination...............what a nut! |
I don't have any female dogs but I have seen several female dogs mark. Fritzel and my cocker spaniel do not mark on things. The cocker actually squats when he pees. I guess it just depneds on the dog. |
Emma is spayed, 18 months old, and pees on top of where other dogs have to mark, but only on walks or in places outside our house...including the doggie sitter's house :thumbdown She will wear her panties the next time she goes there! |
Ellie marks on walks, at other people's houses and in the petstore. She squats and doesn't lift her leg. Why can't you get baby teeth pulled before 8 months? |
