9 month puppy with azotemia I have a nine month old male puppy diagnosed with azotemia after three blood tests his numbers have not come down at all even with medication--I am wanting to know if there is a research place that wants to further their studies on these little guys, or if I should euthanize, certainly don't want to break any one else's heart by donating to a no kill shelter. Please advise thoughts |
What is azotemia? I have never heard of it |
Welcome to yt. I don't know what that is but why can't you keep him? |
The information I'm finding is very clinical, but I think it's a kidney disease? Is that right? |
azotemia is acute kindey failure he throws up needs to be IV hydrated and needs a pepcid to keep his stomach calm after each meal--also getting kidney diet food but it is really the expense of being on IV's that I just can't do any longer the blood tests weekly and the general crying that goes along with what you don't have the ability or the financial resources to cure--if there is a cure my vet doeasn't sounding very encouraging |
Bless his heart. I am so sorry you are going through this. :( |

Has your vet ruled out Fanconi's Syndrome? It is really difficult to diagnose and vets may not suspect it in Yorkies since it is normally seen in Basenjis. We had a Maltese on another forum diagnosed with it about six months ago. He is doing very well now. Here is some information: http://www.upei.ca/cidd/Diseases/uro...20syndrome.htm |
