I'll never be getting another Yorkie pup in the winter He is shivering all the time! The temp has been going up and down here lately. Well, for the past few days, the temp has dropped again and back to the shivering we go. The only way to get him to stop, is to put a sweater on him, wrap him in a blanket, and hold him:( So, he's finally warm and all wrapped up and on the couch watching cartoons with my daughter:thumbup: Do they hold their temp better as they get older? If so, I'll be getting my next pup in the summer;) |
LOL....I know how you feel....But unless I am mistaken...They are all like this....It is 50 degrees here...All three of mine are shivering.....But I have them in shirts and they are curled up in their beds.....And mine are grown up already...So I don't think it is a pup thing... Here in Texas we never know for sure what the weather will be from one day to the next.....We have been freezing one day and the windows open the next..... Joyce |
All yorkies must be different because it gets cold here and we keep our house cooler 65-70 degrees and mine dont shiver |
Mine shivers all the time. she shivers so much that i put her towel in the drier while i bathe her. then when ii take her out her towel is nice an warm. talking about spoiled:rolleyes: |
We live in Illinois and I haven't had that problem with mine, but we keep the house pretty warm. |
Being in Florida you wouldn't think we would have such a problem, but mine sleep under the blankets at night. |
i have always gotten my puppies in the summer its easier to socialize them potty train them & to let them explore |
It must be a yorkie thing, mine shiver to, now with all this snow and cold temps iam constanly changing there clothes, from shirts to sweaters:rolleyes: good thing they have a full wardrobe;) |
Yes, they regulate their body temp much better when older, unless they stay tiny. My Luna is always chilly (if it drops below 70 degrees:laugh: ), but she's just under 4 lbs. Izzy doesn't have that problem, she's about 8lbs. Our vet explained it to me, but I can't remember why they have a hard time staying warm:o Just keep doing what you're doing, the baby will be just fine;) |

Nothing like potty training in the SNOW. I know what ya mean. With my first yorkie I had to start training end of November and I shivered too. Waiting and waiting for ... you know. and zip. Seems like we both were shivering!! Sometimes he would shiver if we just looked at him. But he stopped after a couple months. Sometimes I think he was just afraid of how big people seemed? My other yorkie only shivers at the vets, or when he sees our groomer coming up the walk. And if I give him a bath. :aimeeyork |
Mine shiver in the winter. We live in Texas where the weather is very hot in the summer. So in the winter months we just put their clothes on them and that helps them to keep warm. I really like to get a pup in the summer, I hate the cold myself. :rolleyes: |
I wish it was 50 degrees here! Now that my puppy is over his initial shock, he doesn't have any problems with the snow/ice/cold. In fact, he aways chooses a clean, fresh patch of snow to do his buisness. I'm the one who hates putting on my boots, coat, and mittens every time I take him outside. So much work! |
Elphaba only shivers outside at about 40 or below...and thats if she only has a sweater on. Usually if I put a jacket on she's okay. And she never shivers in the house....usually at 67 at night and 70 during the day. |
