Dixie's second day 4 Attachment(s) Dixie is settling in but not eating her kibble as well as I would like. I added a little wet and mixed it with her kibble so she ate some. She did so well in her crate last night but today when I left for a little bit I put her in and my husband and dtr let her out after 20 minutes of crying!!! MAy not be such an easy night tonight. Any suggestions? I do have her crate by my bed. Pixie and her are already snuggling up together. |

They are so sweet together! Wow, do girls really get along that well? |
Patti...I don't really have any advise, I just want to say how precious she is!! Good luck tonight:animal-pa |
You are right---might not be an easy night tonight!! She is precious, though. Stay patient and good luck! :) |
Sounds like she did pretty good for her first day. Crate training can be a pain, but I find it worth the effort in the end. |
She is so darn cute Patti. Hang in there tonight and I'm sure after a few days she'll become more adjusted for you and the crying will stop. We loved the pictures. :) |
She's beautiful. My suggestion would be not to let her out. Otherwise she'll just keep on whinning because she knows you'll eventually let her out. |
How sweet!!! I love the little purple dress!! |
Patti It might not work, Your probably are going to have to send her to me. LOL They look adorable together. |
Oh Patti...Dixie is the most adorable little baby! It must be so much fun at your house with your new addition! I hope she settles down tonight so you can get some sleep. That's so sweet how she's cuddling with Pixie. I'm so happy for you!!! |
She's so cute! |
Could your dogs be any cuter? I put mine in a small puppy fence, the floor was comepletly covered with piddle pads next to my bed. His crate was right in the middle of the fence with the door off, so he could get in and out. This way I could touch him and comfort him if he neded it. Everytime I found him asleep outside of the crate, I put him back in it. By the second night, he was going to sleep in the crate by himself. On the third night, I put the door back on and and closed it. Tucker harldly wined. By the fourth night the puppy fence was gone and he was just inside the closed crate. He still wined for a few minutes for about a week. Now, three weeks later, he's no problem at all and sleeps in his crate all night. HTH! |
Congrats on your new baby! She is beautiful. I had forgotten what a challenge a new puppy could be; Holly has quickly reminded me. I am doing with her what I did with Gracie. I have a small zip-up pet tent that I put a fleece blanket and pee pad in, then secure the puppy in that and put it on my bed where she can't tip it over. Last night was Holly's first night home. There was no way she was staying in her pen alone all night, she just screamed. It was her first night away from her litter mates, so scary for a little one! I put her in the zip-up crate on my bed and within 30 minutes or so she quieted down and slept most of the night. She got antsy when she needed to pee. I am now dealing with her screaming while she is in her pen during the day. I can't give her free run and Gracie is not ready for that yet. I find the more I ignore her, the quieter she becomes. It is hard, but it is like ignoring a crying human baby when you know all they want is attention. You never want to positively reinforce a negative behavior (e.g., picking her up when she cries). Pay attention to her when she is quiet and praise her for that. Good luck! |
Hi Thanks for the tips!!! She went right to bed last night and slept until 12:30 when I get up for Maya, she gets up twice a night since she has been sick to go out, and put Dixie on the pee pad and she peed and put her back in and she went to sleep untl 3;30 when Maya got up again, did the same thing she peed and then I let her sleep with me until 7:30 and she just stayed snuggled up next to me. She runs up the ramp to the bed real well but is not so good at getting down, so my dtr worked with her today and she is going up and down better/ |
