Changing puppies name Hello all - :animal36 I am new to this site (just joined today). I'm incredibly excited about getting my little girl Yorkie next weekend. She is 3 years old and has been given a name since birth by her breeder. She does have a pretty name however I'd like to change it to one I've always loved and always thought I would name a puppy once I got one. This little girl is 3 years old however and I don't want to upset her or confuse her. I've had some conflicting views from people ranging from (don't do it she will get confused and upset, to go ahead after all it is the tone of your voice they respond to and the loving, not so much the pronunciation of a name). I'd appreciate any comments or opinions. Cheers  Sharon |
I had a rescue lab that was 6 yo when we got her. Her name was Baby and I absolutely hated it! We tried different names with her and notice she recognized any word with that E sound on the end. We changed her name to Bailey and she was fine with it. Is your name similar to the name now? If not I think I would call her by both linked for a bit and then slowly but surely try to drop the first more and more....Good Luck:) |
I changed my babies name when he was three and he picked right up on it. I think it has to do with the tone of your voice. |
When I got Sugar he was 17 months and named Scooter. I figured the names were fairly similar and he never even noticed the change. I agree, it's all about the tone of voice. Congrats on your new girl and welcome to YT!:) |
