Yorkie Dog Shows Hello everyone, I really want to attend a yorkie dog show and found one they are having in New York in February. The only problem is that I am lost when it comes to understanding the information on the website. On the website, it only lists the locations and schedules. Does anyone know how you register to attend these dog shows? |
I assume that you are just going to watch the show, and if that is the case, there is nothing you need to do ahead of time. There is usually a small fee to get in, but all you need to do is go and enjoy! If you are intending to show your dog, there is a LOT to know!!! I would suggest that you contact the YTCA and perhaps get some discussion going with people on this forum who show their Yorkies. Back when my English Setters were on the show circuit, we had a professional handler. Showing can be a very political thing and you need to "know" the judges and what "type" they prefer. Back in the early 80s it took about $7K to "finish" a setter, whether you handled your own dog or used a handler. But it sure was a lot of FUN!!!! |
registering for the Yorkie National Quote:
I am guessing you are asking about the New York Specialtiy at the New Yorker Hotel (conformation), right? It looks like two seperate show secretaries are being used this year (go figure) MB-F and McNaulty. You can register with MB-F by going to http://www.infodog.com and clicking on the link for dog shows. They have a form you can register on line once you have your dogs information in thier systems (you'll need your AKC or CKC number, dam and sire name, breeder or kennel name). I forget whether you can register on line with McNaulty or not but I do know they have already sent out their paper premium (entry form), so you can ask them to send one to you. |
Yes, you are correct - I only want to attend the show, I don't want to enter the dog show. I assume we pay to enter the dog show when we arrive? Thanks so much for responding. And I do want to attend the show at the New Yorker Hotel. Thanks again. |

Great!!! Is there a way to obtain a schedule of events beforehand? I've gone to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website but the information is pretty general. Thanks again for the information |
info Contact Mary Trimble...thimbletipYorkie@aol.com She is always happy to help with those things. It is always great fun.. |
All dog shows are great fun to attend. And I love watching them on Animal Planet, too. I'm getting pretty good at picking the winners, if I do say so...... Specialty shows (where they only show one breed) are a wonderful place to learn about your breed and see the best examples of the breed. Breeders love to talk about their dogs and you can get a LOT of great tips on care and training. Have fun and come back here and tell us all about it! |
I'd love to go to the dog show! Would I be able to bring Archie even though I don't plan to enter him? |
Archie No, only dogs who are entered are allowed at indoor, specialty shows..there is limited space, a chance of careless owners(not you) bringing a sick dog..but I do see pet owners who bring their pets out some outdoor shows..it is not as regulated..too spread out to watch everyone. |
You can always call ahead too if you know the number. The only show I've been to (all kinds of breeds) did let us bring Yoda in, though Yoda was maybe a month or two old at that point. |
Showing Yorkie Is that a minimum age required to become a show dog? Anyone in Southern California know when will be the next dog show, general or yorkie only. Thanks |
