Please Help! Hey everyone :) I was able to pick up Lexi & Oliver last weekend, yay for not waiting another week!!! I have a huge issue with them though: every night around 4am, they wake up and start crying. They will NOT stop until someone gets up and gives them some love. Last night, my boyfriend actually slept on the floor next to their playpen so they would settle down! Other than that, the pups are just amazing...they pee & poop on their pad, play great together, and haven't been destructive at all. Does ANYONE have any suggestions about how to get these guys to either sleep through the night or at least not cry nonstop? We've tried ignoring them in the hopes they'd get the hint, but they cried for a full half hour and we just couldn't take it anymore. Any advice would be VERY MUCH appreciated...I haven't gotten a full night's sleep since Sunday! By the way, here are some pictures! Thanks, Pooja |
I don't have any advice but congrats! They're sooooooo cute! |

And Congrats on the puppies! |
I have used the pennies in a can method and it works, but in this situation, maybe they need to go to the bathroom? When I got Chewy I had to wake up at 3:30 AM to let them pee. I did this for a couple of weeks. Congratulations and your pups are adorable. |
I got my first Yorkie pup on Friday. He also likes to get up at 4:00am. I sleep with ear plugs in so I never hear him, but my husband does. We just ignore him and last night he didn't wake up at 4am so maybe he's getting the hint. here's hoping :fingers-crossed: |
Thanks guys! You guys are great! I'll definitely try the pennies in a can tonight. If that doesn't work, I'm buying a Super Soaker and will have no choice but to engage in middle of the night sniper attacks :D |
Coco did that a lot when I first got her. Every hour on the hour, she would cry. I gave her lovin at first but then realized it's just creating a habit. So i ignored her. She continued crying for 3 weeks, YES 3 WEEKS! But she eventually got the hint. And now she's an angel at night, well almost, except for the times she sneaks away from mom and goes to play while I snooze. |
LOL...Maximus still wakes up at 5:48 in the morning...but now he pees and comes back to bed...still it is like...can't you just hold it for 20 more minutes...lol |

Your comments make me feel better...I always feel like such a mean mommy when I ignore them, but I guess tough love is necessary at this age. |
They are so adorable! I don't have any advice for you because I had/have the same problem with mine. Right now, TJ still sleeps in a cage, and I sleep right next to him on the floor. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, he doesn't make a sound because he sees me right there next to him. It doesn't really bother me. I don't mind sleeping on the ground. Try putting the cage or playpen in your room so that they see you when they wake up. You might be able to reach your arm down into the play pen or whatever and pet them and calm them down. I hope everything works out! :D |
Your babies are so sweet. I notice that they are on carpet. I would suggest that you limit their access to carpet for a while til you are totally, absolutely, 100% sure they will not see it as a bathroom. Once they "go" on it, it will be very hard to stop them. Could you put the puppies crate close to your bed but not in your bed. When they awaken a quiet "suush" and/or putting your figers in so they can smell them. Might help. That has worked for the puppies that I place. I don't know how old your babies are, but they will outgrow the nightly romp eventually. I would suggest that you reserve the pennies in a can for instances when you are correcting other specific behavior ie: barking, chewing, and such. To me, the coins/can would not be the way to teach them quiet at night..JMO |

Congratulations on Lexy and Oliver! |
Waking up 1 Attachment(s) My Lexy wakes up at all different times and it just means that she wants to go outside. I take her out she does her business and back to sleep she goes. They are babies and just like real babies that get up to be feed, these babies want to go out side. Try to be patient the should grow out of it. My Lexy is 15 weeks old and she is still getting up at least once a night. It is better now that it's summer. It doesn't bother me because it's great for training. I don't know about you but I do go back to sleep fast. I don't think it's for a long time. We all have to have patience with these little guys and don't get mad at them, they are trying to tell us something. Good Luck!!! |

Congratulations on Lexi and Oliver, they are CUTE!! Try putting a Tshirt that u have worn the whole day with them at night, it will have your scent on it and they will get the feeling that U are with them! Make sure they are warm enough, these guys chill down fast! Good luck :) |
