Please Help I have 2 4 week old puppies...one is crying and seems to be straining. They have been peeing on their own for awhile but it seems like he is trying to poop & can't get it out. The other one just lays around all the time. I read somewhere that they sleep 90% of the day & eat 10%, is he normal? Is there anything I can do for the one that seems constipated?? He sounds miserable. Please help. |
I believe canned pumpkin helps with constipation, but I would just give him a little bit, and see what happens. |
I saw something on this subject just last week. I think someone said a warm water "sitz" bath on their bottom might work, plus a little help from some lubricant.... maybe do a search on the forums.... sorry I can't help more, poor puppy, its so hard when they cry, I hope somebody helps soon.... |
Is their mother still licking them down there? If not, you may need to take a moist cotton ball and rub them down there to stimulate their bowels like the mother once did. |
if it were me, I would be calling the vet! |
me too. I know nothing about brand new puppies. |
awwww poor baby :( his tummy probably hurts :( i think the vet suggestion is a good one...when they are that tiny you can never be too cautious! :) good luck and please let us know when he is feeling better! |
Poor baby The cotton ball is a goog idea but also rub the sides of the belly with the warm cotton ball in a circular motion for about 20 seconds. Momma's lick them all over down there to get them to go, and not just on the anal area. The lubricant is a great ides and you can do this with a thermometer just like taking a temperature. Use a round ended anal thermometer and put a very small amount of K-Y Jelly on the thermometer and that's all that is necessary. Just insert the tip of the thermometer and remove. Yvonne |
Thank you everyone - unfortunately when my husband took them to the vet this weekend he found a congenital defect in both that wasn't detected when they were in to get their tales & dew claws done. We lost one on Saturday & the other on Sunday. |
I'm so sorry you lost your babies:( You are in my thoughts and prayers. |

I agree with hha, I'd be calling the vet or visiting the emergency hospital. Especially for babies. Hope all is well. :heart to :yorkiesar |

I am so very sorry for your loss. Sending hugs your way and I will remember you in my prayers. |
I am so sorry. I didn't see the other post you had made. That is so sad. I didn't mean to be insensitive. What a terrible shock. Please accept my condolences and prayers. |
Thank You I just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate your sympathy. With all the ugliness in the world these days it is so nice to be reminded that there are people, like all of you, out there that really care. I never dreamed when I joined YT that I would receive such understanding & kind words from people I have have never seen. I am so glad I joined. |
These are very very young pups. Please call the vet. That is the best advice anyone can give. |
Just found and read this thread, I am very sorry, this is so heartbreaking for you. Thoughts and prayers are with you. pooh's mum |
