Welcome!! Congrats on your new puppy Ponyup and welcome to YT!! You seem like such a wonderful caring person asking all the right questions to make sure your little Logan has the very best. Having a first toy bread puppy is alot like having a "skin" baby. I'm going through some of the same things you are. The good thing is that with time and patience and love, which you show alot of in your postings, things get better. There are some very good threads here with some of the answers you are looking for too. You might like to try www.allaboutyorkies.com to find some great answers too! I use royal canin and bil-jac puppy food mixed! (KIM'S POST) I also use BilJan and RC mixed. You can use the dry kibble..either grind it in a food processor and store it in a container or put it in a heavy plastic bag and beat it into small peices. You can use water in the kibble he will eat right away and some dry in another plate or bowl for him to snack on. At 7-12 weeks, my puppies are still getting 4 meals a day...He needs to be watched and taken to his wee pad as soon as he starts to circle in his poop mode. That probably will happen within a half hour after eating. A 7 week-old puppy is not gonna house-train yet. Yorkies can be very hard to train but with the 3 P's--patience, perseverance ad PRAISE- you can do it. Is someone checking on his during the day? A young puppy should not be left alone more than an hour or two. They need to be with their humans if they have been taken from their mom and siblings. Thank you all for your thoughts and help and welcoming me to the site. I just want to do all I can to make my puppy happy and healthy. I read alot so any helpful books would be good too. I take Logan to see my vet on tuesday so I will talk to her about food and any other adjustments I need to make. I knew I wasn't ready to have children, but I didn't realize how much work my new "fur" baby would be. But you all have given me confidence that what he's going through is normal and that things will get better. |

p.s. I am so sorry ! I was on a tear about that breeder letting your baby go so young and forgot to say WELCOMW. There are some of us breeders on board and many wonderful Yorkie owners so between all of us, we probably can help in any situation...and, I am so sorry that the breeder didn't go over every phase of puppy care and insist on a vet check within 24 hours. That way the new owner is a little more objective in the event the puppy has a genetic problem that would result in heartache.. We really want pics....we love those... |
I will work on getting pics. i have a brand new digital camera that i got for my birthday and have been waiting for the opportunity to use it. I guess this is it. I will try to get some up by tommorow. |

I think i have learned about the food issue, thanks to Kimberly :rolleyes: my poor little baby had to suffer for it :( About the Puppy Chow... my Breeder had her on that , and when i took Rosi for her first checkup to the Vet, they gave me a big container of the Purina Puppy Chow :confused: (which i gave away) ! By the way Kimberly, Rosi is on 1/2 of each now :D |
Pet's "room" I set up an exercise pen like the one my breeder had the pup in. I got a "waterproof" blanket at costco to protect the carpet, put her bed (a tunnel like cat bed), food, wee pads and toys in there. She is in a safe place and has room to roam if she is left alone. In such a confined area she is more likely to use the wee pads. (this week she is using them 90%) When we are home and I want to give her room to run, I set her free in larger areas that are safe and gated. She has all of her toys and a couple humans to play with. My pup is 13 weeks old and this is working out really well so far. As she gets bigger, calmer ? and smarter??? we will give her more freedom. right now she never goes outside unless we are holding her. When I *do* try to get her to potty outside I am hoping I can do this by moving her wee pads outside? My friend's dogs are totally wee pad trained. On the 4th she had a barbecue and a guest dropped a napkin. Her dog ran over and peed on it! The guest was mortified :eek: I would be sooooooo proud :D |
