1 Attachment(s) I got a little metal folding fence. You can put it on the floor or outside in the grass. It opens to 4x4 and 2'tall, folds to 2'x2' x 4" or so. |
1 Attachment(s) This is the playpen I got from Walmart to help train my girls! It has been wonderful! |

This is an interesting topic and I, too, am getting an expen this weekend. Probably the Petsmart one from Wollfy's post. I am going to include this earlier thread of mine, because people give good advice about this and also because Tara (Tino and Bunny's mom) posted pics of her setup (post #21) which are so great I'm going to copy her. Good Luck http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...7&page=1&pp=15 |
I agree this is good info! I think I will buy a play pen for my new pup. But I think Target has one for $12.99 http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B0006ISSB4 |
2 Attachment(s) Here are the pics of the set up I used when Tino and Bunny were puppies that Gerry was talking about. This is an expen for a hamster that I got at PetSmart for $19.99... For any of you getting th playpen's with the mesh.. remember to always make sure that your puppy is not wearing anything when you put them in there- no harness, collar, clothes, bows.... nothing! Let's not forget what happend to the little girl that we lost to a playpen/harness accident in the last few weeks. Also you have to be careful that they arent "jumpers" as they can seriously injure themselves... please read Gerry's thread. As she stated there is a ton of great info on there. |

Asia chewed the sides of the mesh playpen I had for her. I have a expen for her now. I like that it folds up flatter than the playpen and gives her more room to play. I can put her in the yard with a wading pool in it too. |
Warning when using a playpen with mesh sides... ALWAYS remove your pup's collar... they can jump up and get tangled and hang! |
I used the playpen pictured above from WalMart for Tini from the time she was a baby until I finally got rid of it when she was about 9 months old. The breeder I got her from uses them, so it made her transition to my house super easy. Plus since she was litter trained, her litter box fit in there too and she knew what to do with it already. I never had problems with her ripping or eating the mesh, but she did try to rip up the padding on the board on the bottom. I solved this by covering the whole thing in the clear plastic you can buy by the yard at walmart. It is vinyl. That helped with cleanups too. Good luck to you with finding the right solution. Hope this helps. |
How long do you need to leave them in a playpen? Do you leave them in there all the time? My pup was in a playpen until I got him at approx 10wks old. I tried using a playpen with his crate, food, water and potty pad. He would go on potty pad and everywhere else. He whines and crys the whole time he is in there any suggestions? |

I used to have a playpen for Addison. It was just one I picked up from a friend who was done using it w/ her baby. I just kept him in there when I was trying to clean and stuff like that. Lvmyyorki - your floors are beautiful! |

I have 1 of those downstairs in the living area for my girls to play and nap in and 1 in our bedroom where they sleep at night, i NEVER put any collars or harnasses on them while they in there, it gives me peace of mind while they in there SPECIALLY when Chanel is on duty and charging around  Since today she has found a way to PULL herself up on the couch!! |
I use the same playpen - only bought mine at Target. Stormy & Kodah sleep in it at night. Stormy tends to roam & does not settle down at night until she is put into the playpen. They are never put in it during the day, only at night & I am right beside them. (Mine do not wear collars either.) |
This is the one I have decided on. For those of you still looking for pens, check out PETEDGE because their prices are unbelievable. This pen is double the price at PETCO http://www.petedge.com/shopping/prod...ProductID=4107 |

I bought the same one, but Sachi dug the bottom up and kept eating the stuffing out of it; I had to put it away. |
Alli- I think you need to get a ex-pen instead of a playpen because Belle is so hyper that she would topple that thing easily. She also is a chewer and I can see her annihilating the mesh sides. The ex-pen is cheaper and will fit in your room easier too! Make sure to take off Belle's collar!!!!! |
I also got a baby playpen that folds up and has wheels. We took it camping this past weekend even and it was great. |

I'm still having a hard time training Mimi . She will pee most of the time on the pad if she's in the pen that I made smaller now about 2ftX4ft. But she poops near the pad and if I dont see the poop right away she will jump all over it since she's running around in that little space. Well I'm trying to train her by this book. I put the pen very big and she now has about a 6X8 ft space. I bought the xlarge pee pads 30"X36" she only pees on one corner so tomorrow I will remove one pad and let her go on that same spot. She didnt make a mess today since she kept away from the pee and poop. I will slowly drag the pen and open it like a fence and give her half of the family room to roam around. The whole idea is to get her to remember to go back to the pee pad. She knows where to pee when she's near that corner. But if she's on one end of the room she forgets and pees right in the middle of the room! Ive tried to add another pad at the other end but she wont use it ! Even with the housetraining drops :( Sorry this thread was about playpens and I ended up venting! I guess my answer is that I use the pens they sell in PetSmart. Ithink it cost me about $80+ The thing I like about it is that I can make it as small or as big as I want and it's tallest Ive seen. Genie |
exercise pen http://www.firstrax.net/petnation/portapen.html This web site has the pen I want to get. It's 89.99 They sell it on ebay too, but still 89.99 |
Hi, I got Bear's playpen from PetSmart. It's great..it's big enough for his bed..pee pad..food bowl..water bowl and toys...I have it set up in the dining room where we have hard wood floors, because its easier to clean up the "accidents". I keep him in it when I have to go run errands and also all night..He used to sleep with me until he starting peeing in the bed! When we first got it..he hated it, and cried every time we put him in it..Now I'll put him in about 10p.m..and he sleeps until about 7a.m..without making a sound! It's great! |
I always let my babies run around my house. But when I go to my parents house with them I use a playpen my mom got just for them. My brother has 2 pitbulls they're really sweet dogs, I'm just scared when they're around my dogs, so I use that whenever they're around. It works really good. Oh by the way it's a playpen for babies not dogs. |
