Colouring question I have a question about colour changes that I hoped some more knowledgeable yorkie owners could help me with. I'm wondering what the general phases of colour changes are. Like, what order the different parts of their bodies change in as the hair grows. Is there any usual pattern for development or is it different with every Yorkie? Suzy's 5 months old now and head is very grey/silver, it started getting grey at about the 3 month stage. At 4 months she started getting some blue/silver coming through on her belly and some more gold hair around her backside. Now at 5 months the bottom parts of her legs are very gold around the bottom and at the top it's quite white/silver. Around her face underneath the dark hair under her eyes it's a very light gold. The hair down the back of her neck is also starting to get some grey/silver regrowth. When should her back start to get grey? Does this come last? This is my first Yorkie, I'm just wondering what to expect. Thanks in advance for your help. :aimeeyork |

That link just confuses me.....to me it says, if this and if that...well I'll just have to wait and see what I get. |
I don't think there's a special order in which they change. I had three, and their colors changed in different orders. |
The color changes of a puppy to an adult is not set in stone. All of them change at there own pace and is dependant of the genetics involved. Usually, the head goes first from black to a silver and then to tan. The quicker the black on the back and neck "break" to blue, the lighter the blue will be as an adult. Usually puppies that go from black on the head and turn gold first will be black and tan as adults and not have correct silk hair. Also if the pups head goes from black to gray first, the pup may remain a smutty color as an adult and not get a shaded tan color. these are generalities only. The genetics behind the puppy holds the key. |
Thanks for all the replies. :D I guess I'll just have to wait and see what I get. It's quite exciting! heh |
