PLEZ HELP ME with purchasing a yorkie... Guys.... (hi, first time here....) please help me....i'm pulling my hairs out as this is my 4th month of trying to purchase a yorkie to spoil...every monrning i wake up, first thing i do is search for a perfect yorkie....but i'd run into so many bad liars that asked me to wire money to Nigeria or that sort, i'm a student, and this is my first time purchasing a puppy, and i'm just so MADDDDD at those people! although i tried to find a cheaper one, but the price is still costing my an arm and a leg, so it's a good thing that i found them suspicious so i ignored them, and they even emailed me again to push me to send out the money  (so i wrote a long essay about how disgusting they are), and since then, i've try to be more careful but some good deals are just so tempting yet too good to be true. could someone please help me on how (or better yet, where) to purchase a good yorkie? and what are the questions i should ask, and/or things i should ask to see before i send out the payment? (picture of AKC paper? health guarentee...?) Thank you so much!!! Staz |

Stacy, I would not buy a yorkie that I could not see in person and I would check the ads in your local paper to see if you can find someone local or within a 100 or so miles from where you live. As far as questions go, I never asked any, i knew when I saw the pup and breeder if I was interested or not. I would caution against having a puppy shipped. They are just so fragile and it has to be a trauma for any animal. Good luck, Sue |

Stacy, you don't say where you live but you can try the YTCA breeders page and look in your area. Also I think that there are a few breeders on here, you might want to check with them for puppies. Did you look on the yorkies for sale page? Do try to stay out of the midwest and Amish country while looking unless you know someone personally that has gotten a puppy from there. And for heavens sake stay out of the foreign countries, although I guess you have already learned that. Another tip, avoid CKC (Continental kennel club not Canadian kennel club),APRI,ACA and the countless other questionable registries. Stay with AKC if you are looking for a puppy with papers. I just gave you a couple tips on looking for a puppy, sometimes you have to wait for a litter to be born or ready it is well worth the wait. Remember this is going to be your companion for many years, I think it is worth waiting a couple of months for a healthy happy puppy:) Good luck and I hope you find the perfect baby soon!! |

The website www.buyingapuppy.com had a good page on questions to ask a breeder to help you select a reputable one. I believe the YTCA.org site also has similar information. If you are looking to spend less than what good yorkie pups are selling for, you may want to consider a rescue/shelter dog. Their applications are not much more stringent than what you would find from a good breeder and you would be made aware of any problems with the dog in advance. This would be a better option than buying a 'cheap' yorkie that ends up costing you a fortune in vet bills and heartache down the road. Where are you located?and what were you hoping to spend? There may be someone on this site with just the pup for you. |

Please tell us what area you live in so that we can help you find a puppy. |

I would just say be patient. I spent 11 months looking for a breeder that I trusted. Take your time and research breeders and their practices. Believe me- I know that you really want a puppy to cuddle and love ASAP, but don't rush into a bad situation. I would also say to meet the person from who you decide to buy. I drove more than 6 hours each way to get my yorkie. While the woman I bought from does ship, I was glad to be able to meet the puppies and choose not only on the "look", but also on the personality. It's also nice to see where your baby has been raised (and under what conditions!) Keep looking and have faith that you'll find the perfect puppy. Let us know where you're from- perhaps we can give you some references. |

Keep your money in the United States. See the babies and parents. Do Not buy from a pet store or puppy mill. These babies are pricey, so if money is the object, you might want to rescue one for Yorkie Rescue. |

Wow I know how you feel. But it takes times to find the right yorkie. Just as the posts above I totally agree with sshaw, diva pup, and sylvan. And its very hard to find a cheap yorkie and you have to be very careful with those Nigeria scams. I think a few members few were in the same situation that you were in. You can go to YTCA and see if there is a reputable breeder in your area that meets your standards. You can look around in ads in the newspaper. And if you are looking for cheap yorkie you could probably got to a resuce/shelter. plus you can also go to the Wanted/For Sale section when breeders sale yorkie pups and adult yorkies. I saw many resonable prices. But mainly...Where are you located? What price range are you willing to spend? Maybe I can help you. But good luck on your search. Jhordan |
