Kennel Question Rudy will be with us 2 weeks on Sunday... He has been sleeping in the porta crib with his little bed and pee pad .. he sleeps all nite and does really well.. my question is ... should i start putting him in kennel to sleep ? He is in the porta crib during the day when i am at work.. the most that he is in there is 4 - 5 hours at a time.. let me know what you think.. thanks so much for your input  |
When Conner was a puppy, he slept in the porta crib next to the bed. If he woke up at night, I would put my hand in and he would go back to sleep. I would get up early in the morning and we would play for an hour or so, get ready for work, then put him in the porta crib in the living room (we had two). I work 6 hours a day, so my sister would come to my house to feed him lunch and let him out for a while. I think it took us a little longer to get him potty trained outside because of work, but at 1 year he was fully trained with no accidents. I have an xpen now that I use when I go to work. He has his bed, food and toys. My sister still comes over at lunch time to let Conner out and give him some stimulation. When I get home, it it playtime until bed!!! We made a huge mistake in putting Conner in our bed when he whined (because he wanted to be with us). Now he sleeps in our bed, nestled up against me most of the time and hubby some of the time. |
I have never heard of a porta crib. |

As long as he's in the porta crib and doing well I'd leave him in there until he's potty trained. Then maybe gate him off in your kitchen and bathroom, so he has a little more room. |
I've wanted to bump up this thread because I have been wondering the same thing. I bought Cooper a really nice wooden crate to stay in during the day, when I am at work and for crate training purposes. But I have a travelling kennel that I want him to sleep in at night. My JRT has slept in his from day 1 and loves it. I guess the question is, will this confuse him? Thanks! |

But I am only gone about 6 hours a day. She has her own bed and pee pad in there, but she seems to be holding it until I get home and take her out. It is a good idea. |
the porta crib is a good idea. I use mine for a kid now, but when I am done with the kid stage I will probably save it for my future dog.:) |
