"Fundraiser Puppies" :( I'm not quite sure how I feel about "no name fundrasier puppies"... but... they all need a home.... Found this on petfinder.com ... they're adorable babies... http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=9861686 |
If it's a legit shelter, I don't see what's wrong with it. I think it would be common sense that a purebred toy puppy would have a higher adoption fee than an adult large mixed breed. |
boy they sure are cute:)i hope it is legit. |
I am opposed to animals being used as fundraisers as they are living creatures and not a glass jar. A reputable breeder will want to know where her puppies go and I feel strongly that people should take the time to understand what their breed is like before they purchase. In this case, maybe they are using the wrong verbage and will just be asking for more money than normal (ok with me) but as I looked at this rescue's site they had a hugh number of young dogs. This seems very odd to me as most rescues have a lot of older dogs or ill dogs. A good rescue doesn't use the cuteness of new puppies to raise funds as this one is doing with at least 2 different litters. They have very few older dogs.... |
But they are still super cute. To bad they're not anywhere near me, if not, I would definetly get one. |

Are they going to spay/neuter the puppies at 8wks?! If they are a rescue, shouldn't they know that they aren't helping the puppies by neutering them so early? But makes a higher risk to health issues? I may be mistaken.... |
They are cute but they are going to spay/neuter them at 2 months old????!? Isn't that too young? |
The whole pretense of selling puppies as a fundraiser, just doesn't float well with me. I think if they just said 'purebreed yorkies available for adoption' is enough to spark interest. |
What a poor choice of words, huh? Most rescues charge more for puppies and young adults because they are so adoptable, but it's in poor taste to call them "fundraisers" IMO. |

I don't like their wording, but otherwise I think the ad is okay. It is perfectly fine to alter pups that young, and a good rescue would do so. In fact I think its very irresponsible for any shelter, rescue, or breeder to let their dogs go home unaltered. |

"These puppies were born 10-17-07. I plan on getting them spayed and neutered on 12-17-07. There are 3 girls and 3 boys in the litter. We were very lucky to have somebody that we have helped to place some of her adult dogs donate this litter to our group. THEY WILL BE FUND RAISER puppies which means they will have a much higher adoption fee. The funds that our group raises from puppies like these is what will help up to help the NOT SO adoptable dogs and puppies. They have their 1st shot along with their Bordetella shot so they are protected against kennel cough. " |

They may be a rescue but I certainly didn't like the way they held the other "fundraiser" litter pups up in the air ... almost like an auction would. A reputable rescue would also make darn sure these pups were totally vaccinated. |
http://www.littleriverlabs.com/neuter.htm I just think that they should wait till they are older to neuter them... They have a set date of 2months old. They should be letting them go to their new home after 12wks, right? So why not wait to the latest time to get them fixed? Why not wait til week 12? Even if it is a law, they can still do it at a later date to 'lower' the risk then at 8wks.... And it's like... if it really is such a great idea then shouldn't we encourage everyone who will fix their dog to do it earlier then the recommended 6-8months.... I don't know, to me it just doesn't make since. And if someone who adopted them doesn't spay their adopted dog at a 'healthier recommended time' then you should be able to take the dog back/fine them.... |

I understand that and I wasn't questioning that.... I was talking about how they could wait longer than 8wks to alter the puppies... They will be adopted out later so why not neuter later also? even if it's by a few weeks, atleast it will be longer than 8wks... I was not talking about if a puppy/dog should be altered or not! *sigh*.. lmbao |

I have a question (that's off the subject)... If you neuter early, what happens to their testicles (I'm not talking about the obvious :) ) but what really happens? will they not be able to have undescended testies? or do you have to wait until they are older to check and see if there was a teststicle that they didnt get? I'm confused about that... |

I think the main reason many vets like to wait until six months to spay or neuter a toy breed is that then they can also remove any baby teeth that may be retained at the same time. If they neuter or spay earlier, it will require a second procedure to remove the teeth, doubling the cost and the risk from anesthesia. |
tHEY WAIT FOR THE TEETH, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO PUT THEM UNDER MORE THAN THEY HAVE TO! tHERE WERE 6- i DO NOT THINK A VET WOULD DO IT IF HE THOUGHT THEY WERE TO SMALL!- tHE LADY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOINGTO BE TAKEN TO wEBSTER gROVES, WHICH IS A NICE AREA IN sTl- i AM SURE IT WAS A GOOD VET- THAT KNEW THAT THEY WERE OK TO GO AHEAD AND FIX! |
