Pictures? I know there have to be pics here somewhere...and yes I've visited the picture forum but most of the ones I've seen there have been of puppies. (maybe it's me because I can't seem to view anything but the last few new pics) Can you link me to some pics of adult dogs that have "puppy cuts". How often do you have to keep them clipped to keep their hair cut looking good? I'm currently in the market for a puppy and I'm definately leaning towards a yorkie or a yorkie cross but I'm wondering how much upkeep their hair will be. Also, I imagine it's not always easy to get a groomer to clip your dog the way you want her clipped...any tips on what to ask for aside from a puppy cut? |
I'm sorry this thread didn't get answered sooner. I think it just got lost in the shuffle. My avatar is a picture of Ellie who has a puppy cut. Have you tried "Photo Gallery" at the top of this page? You should see plenty of pics just looking at different threads. I'm surprised you haven't come accross too many with puppy cut since there are lots of them here. I cut Ellie's hair myself, so I don't know what you tell a groomer to do. Well, actually they usually do exactly what you DON'T want. Just type in the word "groomer" in the search on YorkieTalk and you will here plenty of stories. The best advice I have for you is to cut hair yourself. If that's not possible go to a reputable groomer and don't say you want your dog to get a puppy cut. Tell them exactly what you want done to each part of the body or they will do what they want. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is Zoey in the Puppy cut. Very easy to maintain. |
I love the puppy cut, but be as specific as you can when going to the groomer. If you want the face a little longer, or maybe a little skirt make sure you tell them. I usually look through magazines to bring a picture to the groomer to get the cut I want. |
I agree, be specific. Take a picture if you can. They each h ave their own style and what they consider to be a "puppy cut". Tell them how short/long you want it. As far as how often, it depends on how short you want them. I bathe mine once a week and trim them every 4-6 weeks (I also groom myself). |
Thank you! And you're right, I don't even have a puppy yet and I've already read tons of horror stories concerning grooming! So how hard is it to cut yourself? I'm scared I'd mess up as bad as any groomer would :p |
You can do a search for "puppy cuts" and it will find some threads with pictures. I would do it for you but search isn't working for me right now. Also, to see pictures other than the latest posted go into the photo gallery and then into the member galleries. I cut Gus' hair myself. It really isn't that difficult (as long as you have a dog that doesn't wiggle too much) after the first few times. My biggest mistakes were when I would try to fix every tiny mistake...to try to make it look perfect. They end up with no hair. :D Leave it alone until it grows back in...it doesn't take long...and it is easy to fix. |
Under the Yorkie Talk LOGO at the top of the page - there's a photo gallery link- http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/ Many of us have Albums set up in there. You can just look or search specific user names by clicking MEMBER GALLERY then the letters of the alphabet for their user name - or like me - the link in my Signature |
