Is there much difference between 3 and 4 I am entertaining the idea of adding a 4th dog (3rd Yorkie) into our family and I am a little apprehensive. For anyone with more than 3 is it much harder? Do they tend to get along pretty well. My one dog, Maya is a 10 1/2 year old pom, then Cali who is 2 1/2 and Pixie who will be 2 next month. I would most likely be adding a puppy 6 months of age. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
Hi Patti...if you already have 3 I wouldn't think 4 would be that much harder. I went from 2 to 4 and that made a huge difference. The only problem I'm having is with Riley...he's not accepting the girls very well at all and it's been about a month. If your girls are well socialized and get along with other dogs and if you're ready for the added work then go for it. |
I added my 5th, a mixed breed to 4 yorkies, about 6 months ago. It's ok at times, but I've got one yorkied that has an attitude and will attack, Radar, the little mixed breed for no reason. I did try to find Radar a home when he first wandered into our yard, but fell in love with him (see avatar). For me, 5 is very hard. Hard to bathe, hard to walk, hard to load into the car to go for rides, hard in the RV, etc. Would I do it again, you bet'cha!:D |
3 or 4 I find it makes a difference in the vet bills..but everything is easy...IF THEY GET ALONG!!! |

Thanks for the support and honesty. I will have the 4th insured if I get one and my 2 yorkies are already insured and I am going to be very careful about the health of a new one. They all get along. Maya and Pixie are glued at the hips and Cali and Pixie fight but it's not a mean fighting. I think Pixie will gladly accept a playmate, Cali will then not be bugged by Pixie as much and Maya is in failing health and just likes to lay around and Pixie snuggles right next to her. If I do it I know I am going to need your guys support. I haven't had a puppy for 2 1/2 years and Cali was such an easy puppy (sick but easy). I will keep you posted. |
YAY!! Patti's getting another baby! |
I'd go for another one as long as your dogs are well socialized. They sould get along fine. Best wishes on your decision. |
Hi, my situation was kinda of similar. Snoot was the only furchild for 10 years and then came Trixie and then Pia. I seriously thought I was done. Snoot will be 13 in April and Trixie is a little over 2 years and Pia will turn 3 in April. I had a good schedule and never thought in a million years I would get another but then came Paisley. :D Pia is much more layed back so getting Paisley worked out great for me. Trixie and her play 24/7 and adding her really didn't create that much extra work. I think everything will work out for you and I wish you all the luck. :) |
Go for it if you can afford it, cause i'm sure you have enough love to give another furbaby!! |
