POTTY TRAINING HELP...Plz Plz Plz GOOD MORNING TO ALL...I AM A PROUD NEW MEMBER OF YORKIETALK.COM. I AM VERY EXCITED TO HAVE FOUND THIS WEBSITE HOWEVER I AM HAVING A BIT OF A DILEMMA...MY MINI YORKIE IS 7 MONTHS OLD AND IS THE CUTEST LITTLE THING. ---HOWEVER---DUN....DUN....DUN...SHE IS BECOMING VERY LAZY WITH HER POTTY TRAINING. WHEN I FIRST GOT HER A FEW MONTHS BACK SHE DID GREAT! I KEPT UP WITH IT AND EVERYTHING. HOWEVER, RECENTLY SHE HAS NOT KEPT THAT SAME PATTERN. SHE GOES ON MY FLOOR BUT DOES IT IN PLACES SHE THINKS I WONT SEE. IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO TO GET HER BACK ON TRACK. I WANT TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT GETS WORSE...PLEASE HELP WITH ANY KIND OF INFORMATION SO I CAN GET HER BACK TO THAT OBEDIENT YORKIE PUP I USE TO KNOW! You probably have to go back to square one with her potty training. Don't let her have free run of the house, rather block off one room like the kitchen or bathroom. This way she has some room to move around, but won't be going all over your house. |
I agree with Yorkiekids... she cant have free run of the house until she is fully trained. Make sure she stays in one area of your home w/ her pad and other essentials. Even after I get home and let Meka out, she still stays near me so that I can watch her and I take her to her pad almost every 30-45 min. Shes 8 mo and shes doing good :) |
Yep agreed. I think you need to backtrack. We only add a room as "we" (meaning Coby and I) can be trustworthy. If we have accidents, we go back a step and restrict the rooms again. Welcome to YT by the way. You will find a dozen ideas for every problem you have. That's why I love this place!! |

How do you respond when she has an accident? Often if the dog hides or pees where you won't see it they are afraid of you. Be sure that you are clear in your messages. Always reward for good behaviour. If you do not see the dog potty, don't scold them for it later on when you find it. Also, you mentioned that you kept up with training more earlier in the dog's life. Potty training is something that you have to always stay on top of! The best way to potty train is to prevent an accident from happening. Take her out often, on a regular schedule. Good luck! |
Both of our girls went through a phase where they stopping going potty in the right places and we had to back track and start the potty training again. We did lots of praise for good behavior and ignore the misses unless we caught them in the act. After about a year of staying tough on them, they are great and now at the age of 3 we hardly ever have accidents. If you stay focused and fix it now, you will have a great puppy for a lifetime. Thank You Guys So Much thank You So Much For Your Advice...yesterday She Pottied On The Potty Pad And I Gave Her Much Praise And She Was So Excited And Jumping Everywhere...however, She Did Poo In The Corner Of The Room...it's Like She Will Potty On The Potty Pad But Not Poo On The Potty Pad. How Should I Start Over With The Potty Training Again? It does take some time, patience, LOTS OF PRAISE and a REALLY GOOD POTTY TREAT! My boy was the same way. He would pee on the pad (actually I have a liter box with the pad inside - it forces them to have to step into the box to potty) but he would poop behind the couch. It took a few months of me throwing a PARTY and Really Good Potty Treats for him to pee and poop in the box! Best of Luck! |

If only the rest of the world knew how excited we get over this. ;) When Coby would poop in the wrong spot, we would look "disappointed" in him and make our "gosh, we're unhappy" noises, then pick it up and place it on the pad and then be happy and excited but no treat. He figured it out pretty quickly. Then when he did it on the paper, the neighbors probably thought we were crazy - all that squealing with delight. :D Oh and always good treats!! Keep going!! |
