may have a problem. i have a few questions. i am new to this yorkie situation so please dont condemn me for my actions. shortly after i got my baby she pooped on my bed (witch is where she spends a majority of her time) and me being a little tipsy from a night of drinking, spanked her...i didnt really hit her but i did smack her but and my roomate said that my arm hit her face. ever since she has kind of shied away from me witch is pretty understandable.......will she ever warm up to me again like she was in the beginning? i feel SOOOOOO bad about what i did and it will NOT happen again. also. i read alot here on yt about peoples babies being so spunky and energetic. NOT my M.j. She just lays around all the time....occasionally lifting her leg for her belly to be scratched. sometimes when i walk her she will turn around and smile at me and act like she wants to play but never does (with me anyway but ill get to that) i feel like she doesnt like me at all. i live with eight people (i know thats ALOT of roomates) my oldest roomate and owner of the property says that she will nibble at his nose and play with him. i have also witnessed her standing on her hind legs and doing the up down motion with her front paws to him when he is eating, she never does this with me. i am kind of jealous since i like to think that i do everything in my power to keep her happy. since i live with so many....and we have another inside dog (italian greyhound) i cannot leave food out for her at all times because Wiley (the greyhound) will eat it. so when i get home from work i usually feed her. but most of the time she will not eat or drink anything.......she has gone so long without water twice that i have had to use a medicine syringe to give her the water i KNOW she needed. she is also VERY pick when it comes to food. i work at taco-bell so i bring her beef and chicken alot...she doesnt really like the steak too much. is this ok? sometimes i smash up some dry dog food for regular sized dogs (old roy) and mix it with the beef from work (witch is seasoned) or beef that i cook myself. i heard that they need the dry stuff is this true or am i wasting time? she doesnt really like rice but she does eat it sometimes. what should i try to feed her that she will eat? how much should i feed her at one time? she smacks her mouth alot....like its dry but she wont drink anything (well she will after a while, maybe im just inpatient?) one of my roomates saw something on her butt and said it was a worm....she has had runny poo so i started giving her some over the counter worm medicine....that she throws up sometimes. what can i do about this before i take her to the vet? sometimes...not always......her mouth is dry looking and her tongue white looking and breath bad......what is this? she shakes sometimes......i started giving her a spoonfull of maple syrup as told to do by a breeder i met online.....is this safe.... it doesnt really seem to stop the shaking. she shakes when excited i know but why the shaking for no reason? now that ive said all that let me clear some things up..... i know she doesnt hate me.....she comes when i call her and i can walk her as far as i want without a leash and she will stay within yards of me. so why wont she play or be happy with me? i read alot about how much they are supposed to be hyper and get into things, but she is not like this......ive never even got her to bark. she does howl though when i do witch is cut as hell. i know this is alot and im sorry if its in the wrong board but i didnt know where to post since i have so many questions. i really enjoy this site and will be posting often! as i said please dont be too upset with me for spanking her.....it was a one time mistake! |
Please don't hit her again. You really need to get her a good food. Old Roy is not good at all. There's a food analysis on here, and I'm sure someone will post it for you. You shouldn't be giving her anything seasoned. If you want to give her cooked meat you can give her boiled chicken. Wet food is really not the greatest for their teeth. She will warm up to you when she sees your her main caregiver. Can't you feed her in a room separate from the other dog, so he doesn't eat her food. Does she have free reign of the house? You might want to contain her to one room as she might be overwhelmed by all the other people. I'm sure others will come on and give you more help and assistance. |
The fact that her tongue is white, her breath stinks, she's lethargic, vomits and she shakes is what really scares me. These are all symptoms of liver shunt, BUT it could just be that she is dehydrated!! She needs more fluids. Do you give her access to water at all times? Shaking even after having that maple syrup means that it's probably not hypoglycemia..This could be a bigger problem. Have you had her bile acid tested? Does she eat with gusto? Or is she a picky eater? Do NOT give her seasoned food...You can give her plain boiled chicken or plain white rice or things like that. She could get pancreatitis and you will end up with a HUGE vet bill. Ol Roy is not a quality food. Do not feed grapes, raisins, or onions because they are toxic to dogs. You can definitely feed canned food, which I personally feel is better for them because it's less processed and contains more moisture which all dogs need, especially this one, but it needs to be HIGH quality canned food, not anything you can buy at wal-mart or the grocery store. Try Natural Balance or Solid Gold which you can buy at Petco. |
You can go to dogfoodanaylsis.com to find a good dry food. As said, Old Roy is not the best. I would also not feed her seasoned meat from Taco Bell. You know you made a mistake by hitting her and know not to do that again which is good. The only thing I want to say about that is please, please be careful drinking around her. They are so little and accidents can happen so quickly. My only other advice is to give her lots of love and she will love you back. Sometimes it just takes time but in the end, you are her whole world. You'll get tons of advice on food- I used to feed Merrick dry but there are a lot of other great foods. It's great that you are making sure she is getting enough water and I'm sure someone will come along to help you with the shaking. Good luck with her. I think it's great that you care enough to come to YT for help.:) |
First of all, please remember that these are my opionions only.... Remember that she is just a baby so if she does have an accident, don't be too hard on her. Tessa is 10wks old and usually a firm "NO" and then putting her on her puppy pad is suffficient. I also have pads all over the house for her including right beside my bed. She will wake me up in the middle of the night (because she sleeps under my chin!) and I just set her on the floor, she does her stuff and then I put her back into bed with me. I have found that when she has accidents, it is because she has been held to long and can't get to her pad. I don't feed Tessa anything but IAMS puppy food. I use this food because it is what she was started on and is used to. Her water bowl is always filled and she always has access to it even in her kennel, where she goes when no one is home. If I were you, I would take your baby to the vet for a check up. Hold her lots and love her lots and she will warm up to you. Sometimes it just takes time. Let us know how things go.:) |
This is a joke... Am I the only one who thinks that? NOONE In their right mind would EVER treat a puppy/dog the way you do. Feed her ALL people food, seasoned beef??? walk her w/o a leash? Think she has worms and won't take her to the vet?? You ARE kidding!!! Come on now!!! And if you really do have a dog... rehome her!!!!! NOW!!!! This is one of the most assinine posts Ive EVER read! :( |
Dear Liquor Box, Please take your dog to the vet immediatley and stop with the medications you are giving her. Good lord, if you lived near me I would take your dog to the vet and pay for it. |
You found her right? Well she maybe depressed and missing her other home. So have patience and you will win out in the long run. Try some baby food wienies maybe and treat her with them. You should be the only one that feeds her and treats her right now. No one else!!! Take the wienies and play around with her, make a game of it, hide it behind your back and let her find it. Then praise praise praise!!! Clap your hands. Make a big deal of it!!! You might want to hand feed too so to her, you are the best thing in her life.... Please don't hit her anymore...please. They are not easy too forget and I know it was not meant to be too hard but they really are easy to break and hurt! As far as the food type and other stuff you have already gotten good advise. I wish you both the best...please do come again when you need help!!! |
okay..imo..this is one of those post where they just want us to get all worked up. i would ignore it..if this is true, then i have nothing to say because i get angry and sad reading it. My girls are both 8 and 9 months. they are 99% potty trained but they have accidents here and there. just the other day, gracie went pee pee in our bed. yes, i was not happy. But never ever ever in a million year that i would hit or smack my babies, even if i am drunk..it's not an excuse! |
You need too take a stool sample to the vets and get wormer from there. You dont know if the wormer you are using is for the type of worms your dog has |

Please don't think that I am condeming when I say you might want to think about rehoming her. Sometimes you may not be ready to have a puppy or be able to give it the home it deserves. People make mistakes and we learn from them. I know that you must feel bad for hitting your puppy. Wat if you are drunk again and hit her again. People do things that they don't mean to when they are drunk. Having eight roommates is alot. This could be very overwhelming to your puppy and upsetting to her. It is stressful for the change from the breeder's to a new home and that many people could make it worse for her. Like everyone else has said, no taco bell! It's not that good for humans, much less small puppies. If you keep her, she needs to be seen by a vet asap. If you saw worms in her poop, she should have gone then. There are other things you are describing that I would also say needs to be seen by a vet. Please don't be offended by what I have said as it is just my opinion. |

Interesting user name though... |
Tim, you need to take Mary Jane to a vet right away. While you are there, have her checked for a microchip. You also need to call your local animal shelters and see if anyone has reported a missing small dog. Good luck. You work at Taco Bell, right? Are you in college? That's a pretty big responsibility for someone who is new to yorkies (or yorkie mixes). Good luck and listen to what people tell you on this site. There's a lot of good information here. |
