Getting a Yorkie Soon... Help :)? Hi Everyone! I'm super new to YT, and I don't even have my puppy yet, but since you all seem to be very well-versed in everything Yorkie... I figured I could get some answers and help here! I've been doing lots of research on Yorkies for the past year or so, and I can't wait to get a Yorkie puppy! I stumbled upon dcdogfinders.com and it looks like a great site run by great breeders, and I was hoping to get some feedback from all of you! I also was wondering if anyone knows a thing or two about Morkies and qualities and characteristics of the breed mix. Anything anyone could tell me about getting my puppy, training my puppy, anything... everything would be helpful! I'm not entirely sure how soon I'm looking to get her, but I'm hoping to have her by May... :aimeeyork Thanks in advance! |
Can't help with your questions...but wanted to welcome you to yt. |
Welcome to YT!! :) |
Welcome!!! It is refreshing that you are doing research before purchasing a Yorkie. I would go to YTCA.com and look for a responsible breeder in your area. Also, infodog.com, you can look up kennel clubs in your area and they may point you in the direction of a good breeder. I know nothing about morkies. Best of luck!!! |
Hello and welcome! :D Its nice to see someone that has done their research, and loves the breed like we all do. Yorkies are not for everyone, so learning about them is very important. Sorry, but I would not buy anything from dcdogfinders.com. At best, they appear to be horrible breeders, and at worst, they have a lot of puppymill characteristics. As yorkiekist suggested, YTCA.com is the best place to ggo to find a GOOD breeder. Since "Morkies" are essentially mutts, they have absolutely unpredictable qualities and characteristics. They could look and act just like a yorkie, just like a maltese, a mix of both, or nothing like either one. They are also likely to inherit the worst of both breeds in terms of diseases and illness susceptability. No quality breeder would intentionally breed a mix. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! Or, you can just do a search or browse through old threads. |

Good luck in your search for yorkie or morkie...and Welcome to YT:) |
Welcome to YT! Good Luck in your search for a yorkie. I also suggest going to the YTCA website and finding a reputable show breeder through them. A "morkie" is a mix, and no reputable breeder breeds mixes. The purpose of breeding is to improve the breed and breed to the standard. Mixes are not a breed and do not have standards so there is nothing to breed to or improve...just no purpose to it. I'd stick with a purebred from a reputable breeder, or if you are set on a mix, adopt from a rescue group. |

I went to that website and they have an adorable black yorki-poo male. Soo cute. I would really caution, however, against a breeder with a multitude of breeds. That part makes me uneasy. |

welcome to yorkietalk!!! :D |
Welcome to YT. Hope you enjoy yourself. Stay away from petstores, and puppymills. If you find a breeder you like, and they have a website please post it, and we'll gladly give you feedback on it. I agree with the others. Multiple type of dog breedings can spell trouble. |
Thanks All! It was the fact that dcdogfinders did have multiple breeds that made me uneasy... but it IS multiple breeders/families coming together on the single website. Before buying my puppy I would definitely go in person to any breeders I was considering and check them all out. Thanks a ton for all the guidance! Odd question... my boyfriend and I are huge orioles fans... and I wanted to get his dog (and eventually mine) Orioles jerseys... but the only one online is black and has "00" on the back and it's just ugly... anyone know of where I can get an orange one... or even an orange O's t-shirt? Haha... thanks! |
i would stay away from that site !! if you want a mixed breed go to a shelter or rescue there are tons there |

There are also some great breeders listed here, further down in the Yorkies for sale sections. Check there as well;) Welcome to YT:D |
Thanks! I just put in a request to pocomutt.com... awesome stuff!! I want to get Orioles t-shirts and I'd like to get a Sean Taylor t-shirt/jersey for my boyfriend's (die-hard Skins fan) and my dog, Zulu :)... Thanks so much for the recommendation! |
Just wanted to say hello and welcome :) |
Yorkie/DCDogfinders Hi Nicole, I just joined and saw your Help notice my name is Doug and my wife Susan and I have been yorkie breeders for over 21 yers we also have a Medical Clinic in Fairfax County Va. I have personally known 4 of the breeders at DCDogfinders for over 15 years. They have exceptional pups both purebreed and Hybrid (F-1). As a Vet I find the chat about "MUTTS" somewhat of a "giggle" it has been proven time and time again backed by science , experience and studies that Hybrid "puppies" or Purebred "puppies" if bred correctly can have excellent health history and genetic traits.. the problem with many purebred dogs is that often they are either overbred or without proper "Parent History" are bred. As a breeder, a Vet and a person of "some knowledge" I have found that it will be forever argued between breeders that age old question and comments each have. I think both need to look at the puppy, the history, the breeder, the health warranty the breeder provides, clearences and who and how they are bred.. as for the "general comments reagarding "www.DCDogfinders.com" website I would reccomend that you contact them and or read their site. I knew their grandfather for over 35 years one of the finest breeders and Vet's I ever met, they offer a 5YR 100% Money-back Warrantee on all their puppies and a LIFETIME RETURN Policy. The quality is exceptional, the enviornment thet these folks have is 5 STAR all the way! Brad is a great guy and his wife Lauren is actually a Vet being a puppymill is about the last think these folks are and as a customer of Lauren's I was shocked to see such an attack on such wondeful folks, there are 9-11 breeders in total all "In-home" and "Family Breeders. I personally think that they are what ALL breeders should strive for .. they are absloutly some of the best breeders of purbreed and Hybrid (F-1) in the country they don't just talk the talk they walk they walk! You should call them and tell them DR. Doug sent you over the years I have reffered them to many of my clients. Good Luck! Doc Doug Clifton, VA |
Thank You! Doug, Thank you SO much! Do you still breed Yorkies? If so, would you mind sending me some information on your dogs (pricing, availability, etc)? I'm about to graduate from school and am looking to hopefully get a female puppy in the next few months! Your post was very helpful! Thanks again! Nicole |
