Yorkie vs. Cat Hi there: I welcomed my first yorkie into my life and home approximately 5 weeks ago. I just love her and we have bonded BIG TIME! She follows me everywhere including into the bathroom...(worse than the kids!!!!) My question to all of you yorkie specialists is that I have a 4 year old cat who I also adore. Trouble is Caleigh is not warming up to Bones. She snaps at him whenever he gets close. I feel that he is trying to be friendly with her but she won't have any part of it. Is this something that will pass or is it likely to be this way forever? Any words of wisdom would be welcomed. Thanks!!! |
Welcome!!! Your cat will get used to your yorkie in time. My yorkies love to chase my cat. It seems to be a fun passtime for them to aggravate her. |

I agree...with time your animals will come to accept on another's presence and even enjoy it. Just have them interact as much as possible with out interfering and let them go from there. |
My cat- Toto and Bailey,, have been housemates for 1 year now,,and still are not Buddies like I had hoped :( .. they do tolerate each other, and play occasionally,,, but mostly,, the cat is UP on something! Finally, they have made the bed neutral territory,,and the cat is now allowed back in the big bed... usually Bailey would loose it when the cat jumped up and try and attack! I hope it gets better for ya... Im still hoping too,, I always loved the pics of dogs and cats cuddling together, but I dont see that happening at my house! :thumbdown |
We have had 5 cat since we got Willy. The 2 older cats (11 & 10yrs) tolerate the dog. We had 2 that have gone to the bridge w/in the last 2 years & both of them liked Willy & would play with him. Our 3yr old cat & Willy play all the time, but with our youngest he came after Willy & they became instant buddys. It depends alot on the cat & their temperment. In our case the male cats are more willing to tolerate & play with the dog, our female after 6years still growls & hisses when Willy gets too close. Just give them time & equal attention & they will be just fine. Desiree :cat: :aimeeyork |
Reply Thanks for all the different angles on this. Bones is a great cat! He is personality plus and has always had his spot on the bed but now with Caleigh, she just chases him off. Makes me kind of sad because he was there first. I know with his personality that he just wants to be buds. I am hoping that it will turn around 'cause I love them both. There has been the occasion where Bones will curl up on the end of the bed and Caleigh remains up by our pillows. |
