surgery on my pups head She had a little cyst on her head and it was getting infected so we decided to have it removed. They shaved her head and gave her 7 stitches. It’s been about a month and she is doing fine. The only weird thing is that the area that they shaved on her head the skin turned black. Now the hair growing in is dark red. Has anyone ever heard of this or had a similar experience? |
I've never had this experience, but I hope your baby is ok, and would call the vet, and let them know. They could tell you if it's normal or not. |
Poor baby! I agree, check with your vet. Do you have a followup appt. scheduled? I would think that would be part of the package you paid for with the surgery. |
I'm glad, first of all, that your baby is okay. My dog Starr got attacked by a pit bull a few years ago. The areas where she was bitten and then sewed up, the hair grew back red there too:eek: Our vet said it was normal. |
My yorkie had a bald spot from trying to get out top knots, she now has bangs. But the bald spot turned dark and the hair come in dark on the ends but turned silver the longer it got. |
I will say a prayer for your puppy to get well real quick!:) |
Coco had a 'hot spot" while on holiday last year, she had to have it shaved also. She is dark with a few silver streaks but the har has grown out pitch black where the hot spot was. |
Natalie has VERY thin hair, especially on the top of her little head.... my INSISTANCE to keep her hair out of her eyes with a band or bow has left a tiny little bald spot.... which in a matter of 12 hours or so had gone from a pale "scalp" color to a very dark gray.... and now, the new hair coming in is a very dark red as well.... Seems to be normal from everything I've read and will "run itself out" to the normal hair color as it grows. Here is a little snippit from one of Admin's sticky posts about "breaking color" where it mentions what we're all questioning.... <<The underlying skin has pigmentation of the same color hue as the hair. The head, chest and legs have skin pigment that is light yellowish pink to moderate reddish, orange-yellow. The inside of the ear is the same, but the outside pigmentation of the ear leather is a reddish brown. The body’s skin has a pigment that is a light grayish-blue to medium grayish-blue. The pigmentation on top and sides of the tail is medium gray-blue to dark gray-blue. If the skin is injured, the hair scratched or torn out, the healed skin with the early hair growth will be a darker area until it returns to normal.>> Hope this helps! :) |
sometimes a bald spot or shaved spot will grow in a different color on some dogs. its normal. dont know why it happens. |
