How do I potty train??? Geeze, my little Bella is 11 weeks old...we just got her 2 days ago. I have no idea what I am doing to get her to be potty trained! We have a Maltese who is 1 yr. old and we were able to get her to potty outside but, this new baby is just clueless.........and so am I. She is going wherever and whenever she wants, and its very cold outside so she just shivers out there when I try to take her out! Will this ever get better??? Any ideas? How did you do it? Thanks! |

I don't have any personal experiece, but I believe patience and consistancy are the biggest key!! She's only 11wks, so consistantly bring her out to potty every hour. If there's a time you can't keep an eye on her for a moment, put her in a confined area, such as a crate, so she cannot soil. Be patient..she'll catch on. Be sure to clean the area where the accident was very well, so she won't be inclined to potty in that spot again. I am pee pad pan training... my little guy.. i have him in a porta crib with a little bed food and litter pan at the end.. he is doing great .. when i take him out i put him in another litter pan with a clothes basket on top and tell him to go potty he has gone every time after i give him a cheerio for a award.. you can pm me if you would like.. |

My suggestion is crate training...and you are the one that needs to be disciplined..not her. You can ween her off it eventually...but she should spend a lot of time in the crate now. Plus, hang a bell on the door (s). When Elphaba wasn't in her crate I set a timer and we went out every 60 minutes...over time I built up to 90 minutes. But I put bells on the doors and every time we went out I made her ring the bell. Now she rings it on our own if/when she needs to go potty. And accidents are far and few between - and usually happen when I didn't get to her fast enough after ringing the bell. |
I have had Jeter for 1 week, he is 10 weeks old and he is doing good with his potty training.This is what is working with us so far. I take him outside as soon as he wakes up, after he has played, and after he has eaten or gotten a drink, we also take him out every 2 hours, unless he is sleeping. It has worked real well doing it this way, he will whimper now to go out so something is working. He has a crate but he is only in it when he is sleeping. Jeter has only had 1 accident sense we brought him home and that was the first night he was with us. I told him "no" firmly and took him out to the potty area. We watch for clues that he has to go, like sniffing and walking in a circle, when he starts to do that, We will say Jeter outside" hook his leash on and take him out and say "go Potty" When he potties, we give him praises and a piece of food as a treat. If she's cold maybe you can put a sweater on her. This way she'll be warm, and might go outside. If not you can try to train her on the pee pads. |
