Poor Slade Where do I even begin? I noticed this morning that he has tape worms I don't know how he got them since I haven't seen any fleas on any of the dogs since before I got Slade, but they are definitely tapes. *Gag* This morning I had to rearrange his crate from the den to the guest bedroom. He was being whiney so he got to ride in the front carrier all morning like a baby while I cleaned. He was content just to snuggle next to me while I cleaned and moved stuff. So this afternoon I went to the feed store to get him and Lu some food and him some meds for the tape worms. I got home and realized he needed some wet food to take the meds with, so I went back and took him. While we were there, there were two really rude people that made comments about him. Got home and fed it too him with the meds. 2 hrs later he vomits all over the crate. yuck. I think the canned food didn't agree with his tummy. He's only eaten dry his whole life. He seems fine now, I'm going to offer him some of his regular dry food in case he's hungry. |
Awww...poor Slade hope he feels better soon. Have you tried yogurt, apple sauce, ice cream to mix in the meds? |
I hope Slade feels better soon Sending hugs from me and Cody James |
Awww I hope Slade feels better:getwellso :getwellso ... |
sorry he has tapes. he could have picked them up from eating something out in the yard. i hope the meds clear it up. |
ok, I feel stupid now.. I didn't even think of that. As much as I had to give my senior dog meds prior to her death, I can't believe I didn't even think of mixing it in a bit of yogurt! We have some in the fridge, I'll try that for his meds tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion1 :D |
Aww, poor baby! Puppy wishes coming from my gang that he feels better real soon! |

I hope the meds work too. It only kills one kind of tapes, I'm hoping thats the kind he has! If not, I guess I'll be begging mom for money to take him to the vet until I can get paid. If the meds work, How many days should it take until I don't the tape worm segments in his stool? Thanks for the get well wishes everyone! |
Awww I know I feel bad when mine don't feel well. I hope Slade feels better soon! I don't know much about the tapeworms but maybe you could do a search on google to find out. Good Luck! |

I'm not sure how long it takes them to go away. Usually if its discovered at the vet we tell people to drop off a sample a week after the meds are finished to test again. We use Drontal at the hospital. I'm not familiar with store bought medication. |
ah yes, we have plenty of rabbit poop in the yard. The house next to us is vacant, and next to them is the woods, so we get bunnies in our yard quite often. That is probably how he got it. Honestly I don't hold much hope in the store bought since it only kills one kind, but I figure I'd try it before I spent $70 on a vet bill (office fee- $40, fecal $15, meds $15). It worked for my foster that had tapes, so maybe, just maybe. I checked his crate again and he threw up pretty much all his dinner. It was not frothy vomit, more like tubes. I took him with me on a beer run, which he enjoyed and we played some. He fussed when I put him down for the night. I did give him some food since he is probably hungry. |
Get well soon Slade! |
if he vomits more during the night i'd take him in to the vet. the meds from the store shouldn't be making him vomit :( |
I'm keeping an eye on him. Unfortunately we don't have any all night vets here and my vet is horrible to find on the wknd. I don't think its the meds making him vomit, but the food. The med is in powdery form so it needed to be mixed with wet food. He has NEVER had wet food and stupid me bought Wellness duck and sweetpotato kind, neither things of which he is used to. He ate some of his normal food, so if that comes back up, I'll start calling til I reach someone. |
Sorry Slade is feeling so yucky! We wish him a fast recovery and a Merry Christmas. |

Poor Slade! I hope you feel better! |
Poor Slade I sure hope you get feeling better. |
Its safe-guard Canine dewormer (fenbendazole) The type of tapes it treats is Taenia pisiformis. It doesn't say to feed wet food, I just figured that would be the simpliest way for him to get it down. |

i hope it works for you guys. |
We've had our share of tapeworms. They go away quick with the meds. They usually get the ones the the otc meds will kill. But mine haven't gotten sick with them. I hope Slade starts feeling better soon. |

I give my furkids advantage multi 10 and it does heartworm and all sorts of worms, and also fleas...I give it all year long...it works great...so any of the meds you get for fleas and worms from a vet are always good..and if you have worms, most vets will give you worm medication so you do not need to visit..at least mine do...pooh's mum |
