thinning hair. I have noticed lately that my 8 year old silky yorkie's hair seems thinner than it use to be. The top of her head and along the back and side of the back. not balding in spots just thinner.. Does anyone know what might cause this? Thank You so much. |
Sorry I can't be of help, I just wanted to welcome you to YT! your baby is adorable!! |
Welcome to YT! I am no where near as educated on Yorkies and nutrition as some here, but maybe it is her food? What are you feeding her now, or has it changed recently? or has her stress levels changed any? I know when I am stressed I loose hair! :p Just some thoughts. Lisa |
Just wanted to say "welcome to YT"! |
symptoms Does he/she have any other symptoms? Increased thirst, urination, appetite, a pot bellied look. I had a dog with cushing's and the hair loss and increased thirst were the first symptoms I noticed. |
Has she had a thyroid panel done? Thinning hair and hair loss where you describe it are classic signs of low thyroid. My Lady had the same symptoms and was put on thyroid medication about a year ago. It's an easy, inexpensive "fix" with a pill twice a day.. |
i too was going to suggest getting a senior blood panel run to test for cushings and thyroid problems. Both of these issues can cause thinning hair. |
Thank You Thanks everone for your comments.. She has not changed food and not any stress that I know of.. I think I will have some blood work done.. You really can't notice the hair loss. I can when I brush she she is not as thick as it us to me.. Mommies notice these things. Ya Know.. And thanks for the warm welcome.. :wavey: |
Yuppers.... the only dog I ever had that had a bad coat or short sparce one was a thyroid issue... Good luck.... :) |
Welcome. My pom started with hair loss and it wasn't that noticeable at first since she had so much hair, but she was first diagnosed with Thyroid condition and then Cushing's disease. The other symptoms were excessive thirst and ravenously hungry and skin sores. I would definatley get blood work done. I do bloodwork every year on mine now. |
