Advice needed on Mia's lonliness Ok. I got scalded by boiling water yesterday - long story - and am in bed for a while since I have a huge blister just above my knee and dressings won't stay on. total area affected is about saucer to salad plate size. NOT fun! Family is not good at dealing with Mia - just want to leave her in her playpen area where she whines and cries. Any suggestions for keeping her entertained on my bed? my bed is super high and I'm afraid she'll fall off if she gets wild. thanks Julie |
omg hope you get better soon i burt my mouth really bad once couldnt eat or anything anyways i really dont know what to tell you mabee get her a ton of new toys or some stuff to knock her out (just kidding) i dont know yorkies never stay still |
Maybe bring the play pen in your room by the bed. If she sees you maybe she will be ok. Hope you get back on your feet real soon.................Cindy |
is mia into tug of war? coz you could play tug of war with her and not have to move an inch..... another good idea is to (if you have a handy person around) make a ramp or stairs that can reach the top of teh bed, adn then mia can get up or down as she pleases....... if all else fails, you could at least make up a comfy spot for her in youre room so you can keep an eye on her (with all the essentials of course..... chewies, toys, ect...) that way you wouldnt have to rely on other people to take care of her (i hate it when other people watch my yorkie, i never feel that he gets everything done adequatly)....... how long are you gunna be confined to a bed??? |
Well, you could cushion the areas near your bed with pillows and the sort and still have her come on the bed. You could hold her and brush her hair, or perhaps entertain her with a Greenie, some music, or TV if she can sit still and watch it. Or your rub her, hold her, kiss her, hug her while you are bedridden. |
I'm so sorry! That's the pits! My Yorkie would love to be able yo just cuddle up to me. She would do that for a long time. Then maybe play a little game with your hand or something. I think the pillow cushion idea is great! Hope you recover real soon! Pat |
Goldcupmom ... hope you are up and healed soon ... nothing more agrivating than a burn! I would definitely settle Mia in your room. If you could arrange her a way to hop up and down from your bed it would be good. I have used boxes [banker boxes] and it worked well for Toto while we were in a hotel suite. I put a receiving blanket on the top and tucked it in when I put it back on the box and it worked well to keep her from sliding. Our Toto is a snuggler so I have no problem with her if I am in bed ... she just comes up her little steps and curls up as close as she can get and sleeps while I watch TV! She is such a great little girl ... she does what we do! ;) |
Sent a little prayer aloft for you and we sure hope your painful burn heals quickly. I second what everyone else has said.....just make it possible for Mia to get on and off your bed and you two will have a great time cuddling and playing together. |
I just wanted to add to everyone elses ideas that a few new toys might also help to keep Mia's attention so that she won't be running all over the bed. When I give Tiko a new toy he can spend at least half hour focused on his new toy. |
Poor Mia just can't understand. I broke out all the new toys, bones, greenies and even a HUGE rawhide that belongs to Brandy the lab. She wants to PLAY!! Hubby doesn't want her to be able to get on and off the bed herself, so when she is up, she is up. I'm trying to train her to come to me when she wants up or down and I can lean and lift, but she thinks I"m playing. Burn I think is starting to heal. The big bubble has now started to drain/ooze, but is now encompassing most of whole area which takes 5 4x6 telfa pads to cover. Very gross and huge, but so far not overly painful. My biggest concern is of course infection. That and the fact that the weekend of 1/14 I am in charge of a gymnastics meet for about 700 kids. Praying it will be healed by then. Hubby tried to give Mia a bath for me yesterday. He ended up wetter than she did, but I must give him E for Effort. We were both tired of her smelling like Brandy spit from playing in Brandy's mouth. LOL! He gave up because she was crying - Drama queen strikes again! Now if only I could devise a way to get my hair washed..... thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'd really be going nuts if not for my laptop! |
Goldcupmom, if you have a crate, maybe you could have someone put it close enough and high enough that Mia can have food/water/wee wee pad where she has access to it without getting up and down off the bed? That's some burn you got!! Can't think of anything more painful. Years ago, had a sister-in-law who was badly burned when her neighbor's house exploded. She survived and it was a miracle that her face wasn't left with bad scarring but her body had some horrible scars! She was allergic to lanolin so after the burns healed, the doctor had her use Lubridurm lotion and it was amazing how it made a lot of the scarring disappear. My son was jumping around naked after a bath when he was about 2 and plopped his little butt on a little space heater in the bathroom! Both cheeks were giant blisters! First thing his Aunt Dean did was cover that little butt with the Lubriderm lotion and it didn't leave a single scar!! Hope you heal up in time for your gymnastics meet! :) |
i can help you with the hairwwashing dilema :D all you have to do is sit in a chair (if the chair has a back on it, turn it to the side) and then all you have to do is lean back like you are getting youre hair done at the hairdresser's and have youre "hubby" wash youre hair for you....... you wouldnt get him as wet as mia did would you???? Good luck, and i sympathize with the cleanliness part of being laid up in bed, when i had surgery and when i broke my foot i had to wash in a way similar to what i described, it was soooooooooo inconvienient....... those of you who dont know...... DO NOT TAKE A GOOD SHOWER FOR GRANTED!!!! Hope you feel better |
Sorry to hear about you getting burnt. i pat the side of the bed if i want one of our dogs to copme to me and call their name. Missy and Bobo like to lay in bed with me they would lay there all day... |
too funny!! Every night since I got burned on Sunday hubby Tom has had a TERRIBLE fight getting Mia to calm down and go to sleep. Has turned into a 2 hour ritual of her wanting out, playing rough, wanting him to hold bones while she chews them, etc. Last night since the bubble is almost totally drained I was once again able to lie on my left side - facing the middle of the bed so she doesn't fall out. Tom took her potty and came in to put her on the bed and she DOVE out of his arms, under the covers in her usual spot by me and was asleep within 5 minutes. She slept ALL night and it was over 12 hours before she got up. Poor exhausted baby! Today we tackle my hair - will have to try a chair by the sink - tho I'm short and will probably have to sit on the phone books! LOL!! I am starting to see healing and am not quite so grossed out when I take the bandage off. thanks all! |
I feel for you! When my mom was bed-ridden, I bought a shampoo that didn't need to be rinsed. It worked pretty well. Sounds to me like your little one is just in love with you. Maybe a bit spoiled? Hee! Hee! Once they get to go to bed with you, they don't want to go anywhere else! Little buggers! |
one more word of advice...... if i were you i would stretch out youre muscles in youre leg, (you know just reach down and touch youre toes , so long as it doesnt hurt youre injury) the reason i say this, is because when i was bed ridden from surgery (i had to keep my leg up and absolutly still) i was surprised hhow fast i got muscle atrophy!!! i was only in bed a week but having my leg in that constant position with no stretching totally wreaked havoc on my muscles in my leg, it took me a good week to be able to walk uphill without the muiscles hurting |
