Keeping one from a litter My little girl, Babsy, has 2 pups and I am thinking about keeping one of them. Do I need to separate them at some point to make sure he gets completely weened or will Babs take care of it herself. |
Welcome to YT. I think momma will take care of the problem. |
Thanks, I just didn't want him driving her crazy or forming some bizarre attachment:) |
No, don't worry about it. I kept one from my last litter also and mom makes sure they get weaned:) |
I don't have personal experience, but my puppy's breeder says she lets all of her dogs nurse until they are ready to stop. I met him at around ten weeks and all four puppies in the litter were not nursing anymore. I don't know if the pups stopped on their own or if their mother stopped them, but I do know the breeder didn't stop it. HTH |
I too kept a puppy from my one and only litter. I just could not give up my little Isis....:) Her mom, Sophie weaned the pups, I had nothing to do except start supplementing her with crushed puppy chow and chicken/rice.... She grew into one wonderful lady. Her momma taught her very well in socialization aspects, plus some human intervention :):):) |
Thanks everyone. It is hard to think of giving either one up but one of my very good friends is taking him so I can still see him whenever I want. |
