Jack has chewed into the wall! 1 Attachment(s) OMG guys, My jack has been doing so good, we have been leaving him out to play while we are gone to work. yesterday i get home and he has chewed a huge hole in my hallway! he is only five months old and I don't know what to do. We have gone back to him being penned up in the kitchen while we are gone. when i got home he was just sitting on his bed shivering and had shredded his peepad. when i let him out for a while he went right back to his new hole and continued digging. i have told him no but he just wont listen. now my home is being destroyed..... here is a recent photo, my sister and i with young Jack. any advice? |
oh...I remember those 'destructive puppy days' Well, he is teething and being a destructive puppy. There are special sprays that you can buy in the ped store to deter 'chewing'. Mine didn't have 'free run' when no one was home until they were about 1.5 years old :( As far as the pee pad shredding, I have to laugh, b/c I can visualize the days that I too had to come home to that  First, I changed over to washable pee pads. Then after a while and they calmed down, I returned to the throw away pads, but I got a doggie liter box and placed the pee pad inside the box. This works great! Best of Luck! |
Oh boy you have yourself a little termit there. I believe him to be too young to be free in your home. I would put him in an area, kitchen, bathroom with a gate across and leave him with toys and a radio on for company. Make sure a light is on also. Repair the damage and put somthing in front of it so he can't get to it again. I know they can do these awful things, I've been through it but hang in there because it will get better. You just have to have patience and continue with training. He's still a pup so to him this is just plain fun. Buddy will be four in Jan and he still wimmpers when I leave in the am. |
Are you sure Jack isn't a Jack Russell Terrier? Sounds just like my Austin! He is 8 and STILL shreds things. The only toys I can buy him are Kong because he destroys anything else. His favorite thing to do is pull the exhaust pipe from the dryer out of the wall!!! Now I am getting a yorkie pup in 15 days. I must be a glutton for punishment! The only advice I would give, is keep him isolated in and x-pen or something of the like. I keep my JRT in the garage when I am at work because there is less to get into out there. Good luck! |
