Do yorkies tend to be "yappy" Hi everybody! As you may have seen in my first post the other day, I am trying to convince my mother to let me get a yorkie as I am returning home to help her out around the house since my father passed away. Anywho, one of her concerns is that "small dogs tend to be yappy" although I think that's a bit of a myth, and it's more of a matter of training, temperament, etc. I'm just wondering if you have noticed if yorkies tend to be yappy and if they're easy to correct (and also, if your little furbaby was/is barky, how do/did you correct it?)? my yorkie is a barker doesnt really bother me to much tryed stoping him but nothing seems to work yet |

Mine only barks when he wants or needs something, he usually never makes a peep....Unless you ignore him..... |
I have friends with other small breeds and they are not different than the Yorkie. Some are very quiet and some bark at unfamilar sounds. Personally I love having one that barks if someone is at the door or she hears some strange noise. |

It's creepy out here sometimes, lol! Also we will "talk" to each other, but his talking is different than barking. It's really cute to hear ;) Also when Daddy comes home he goes crazy cause he is so happy to see him :wub: So all in all He has his reasons for yip yapping and I know all of his different tones and what they mean.:thumbup: BTW Koda is only 8mos, so if you train them from the right and wrong with it everything works out pretty good :D |

3 of mine never barked. Cali only when she thinks someone is at the door. My Pom barks constantly for no reason and when she starts up, Pixie barks too. Pixie's bark is high pitched and yappy. |
I have one that's essentially mute. She rarely barks. We are always surprised to hear her when she does bark. Scout on the other hand barks enough for them both...but he really only barks for good reasons(as far as dogs are concerned) like people at the door or strange noises. |
Mine never barks unless someone rings the doorbell or if someone is working around the plants behind my back patio. Other than that she is very quiet. |
My Gracie is not yappy at all. The only time she barks is when someone comes to the door, if she hears a strange noise, or if she is playing with one of the cats. |

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I keep replying to Browniesmom's posts and my replies just don't show up...sorry, I'm such a n00b lol Just wanted to thank you for the links to the polls, very interesting stuff! I keep doing searches on the forums but there are so many hits on the term "yappy" that I just ended up starting a new thread lol. Roxy is only yappy when she wants attention or wants you to play with her at night. She dont bark at every lil thing. |

It depends on their personality. I have 3, all 3 are not barkers, but 2 of them will bark if the doorbell rings to let me know and one will bark if she hears something, and at big dogs. During those times she sounds like a yapper but not compared to my friend's Yorkie that barks at everything! He barks nonstop so i guess he is a yapper. My other little girl does not bark when the doorbell rings, she only barks when she wants me to pick her up and its the tiniest, cutest bark lol |
Kalina barks occasionally, but she is definately NOT yappy. :) |
