Found yorkie in the paper! Not so sure? My mother found an ad for a yorkie female in the paper. I called the woman sounded very educated on the breed. She has even waited 16 weeks before putting her in the paper seeing she's so small. She claims this is her first time breeding but she has owned yorkies for years. The lady went into great detail on how shes been waiting for the right dogs to breed & how she has all this extra testing done. Seeing that she's not a actually breeder I'm not sure how I can research her? Should I ask for a vet references? After dealing with a puppy broker I feel like I can't trust anyone. |
Fire the standard questions at her. If she's been researching for years, she should be able to answer them regardless. You can't hold it against her if she's just starting, we all start somewhere. Try to bring up any questions in conversation. IE, "You looked that long for the right breeding pair...what characteristics were you most concerned with?" or "In your search, what were some of the things that turned you off of potential stock?" And don't accept a general answer...ask for specifics. Any breeder should be glad to answer any questions you have for them and should have plenty for you in return. If that doesn't seem to be the case, I would be wary. |
Ask her alot of standard questions and if she doesnt want to invest in the time to speak with you and answer all your questions move on and go elsewhere. Good luck in your search! |
Be very careful I was scammed by someone that answered all my questions and made me feel very confident... .. still got taken |
As the others said, just ask standard questions... And most important, go with your gut... :) |
I would ask her for vet references. She should willingly give you her vets phone number. |
Google and Yahoo search her name. Do a reverse directory and see if her address matches where she told you she lives. Call the Animal Control in her town and see if they know her. Be suspious. It will benefit you in the long run. |
