PLEASE HELP!! IM GOING CRAZY!!! :( Cassondra and :aimeeyork Bam-Bam |
Did the vet say what kind of skin infection he has? |
no but she gave me an antibiotic called clavamox(amoxicillin trihydrate/clavulanate potassium) and a medicated shampoo called ChlorhexiDerm she also said that as long as he's eating and active he'll be ok...it's really beginning to concern me because it looks really bad.. |
Humm maybe you need to notify the breeder about it, I hope your puppy :getwell: |
I personally would definitely bring this to the breeders attention immediately. Get a copy from your vet of his report and take pics possibly of his affected skin. Do you have a contract??? I sure hope your little Bam Bam gets better real soon :) |
well the contract is that i have 14 days not including weekends or holidays to get my money back or pick another puppy. he is not responsible for any vet bills or medicine. so i have til monday. i thought with the medicine the vet gave me he'd be a little better. his cough has gotten better. he doesn't cough a lot but when he does he spits out flem. he started off with one bald spot and when i got home today there was a second. he is given his medicine as directed...im really scared that it is only going to get worse...: ( |
I guess it depends on if you are willing to pay the medical bills and forget getting reimbursed. I would think you'd be OK with doing that since you're already very attached to him. Personally, after almost 2 weeks, I'd keep the puppy. |
Oh wow.. i'm so sorry your going through this. I had a somewhat similiar experience with my newest addition not very long ago. She had a URI, and eye infection and coccaida.. not to mention she was flea infested. She is doing wonderfully right now but there is no way I would have returned her after the 2nd I got her. I would assume that the antibiotics are for the cough.. did the vet give you an ointment or say what the skin problem was caused from? If it is curable and I was in your shoes I would just treat it, it's so hard when your attached but at the same time knowing that you provided income for someone who isn't the type of breeder you intended to buy your pup from. I just re-read what the vet said about the skin and that you have a shampoo for it. As long as your little one's hair will grow back everything sounds treatable so if your attached I think you already know what you will do :) |
Please help! I understand what your going through, because we went through with our youngest Yorkie. Its sounds like the same skin infection our Yorkie, Abbey has. I say has, because it never really goes away. She was on the same medicine your little guy is on. We also used medicated shampoos. Nothing was really working, untill I spoke to a breeder that really knew her dogs and yorkies. She told me to address the problem from within. To boost her immune stystem the vet gave her Omega 3 . The problem cleared up, and we have been skin clear ever since. Now I dont know if this works on all dogs or if it was just the right step to take in Abbeys case, but it doesnt hurt to try it. Good luck, with your yorkie baby, Sheilah |
A 14 day health guarantee?????? ... and not willing to pick up the vet costs????? I give a year and though I've never had to back it up, I would definitely pick up the vet costs if I unintentionally delivered a sick baby. That just doesn't sound right. You poor thing. It sounds like you love your baby though and that's wonderful. Just hang in there. It sounds like you're doing everything right. I would ask the vet about the hair loss to make sure it's going to come back in. And definitely let the breeder know. I did purchase a pup once who had kennel cough, but he did get better and he's been a wonderful furbaby. So don't give up on him. Keep us posted.... |
Please do not give the puppy back to the breeder. He will be traded for another dog and be used for breeding or worse. Your problems can all be fixed with time and he will be a wonderfull pup when he grows up. Please be patient and everything will be ok. |
did you pick up the puppy or was it shipped/delivered? did it have the bordetella vaccine? kennel cough is very common in dogs and spreads very easily.. just like any cold we could get.(you may want to keep other dogs away from your pup till this clears up) so, just based on that I wouldn't return the puppy. you may want to call your vet and get more info on the skin infection?! if they said it will go away, I'm sure it will.. but I would definitely want to know what it was exactly and would let the breeder know about the cough and infection. maybe their vet didn't catch it? and the symptoms weren't there for a few days.. in any case I would notify the breeder. I could be wrong but I think sometimes the bordetella vacc. can cause kennel cough.. anyone is free to correct me on this.. good luck, I would keep the pup as long as everything is on the up and up |

Yes I agree with you. My black lab has the same problem. I started giving him the omega3 and within 2 weeks, his skin condition cleared up! His coat is nice and shiny and he looks great. I give it to him once a day in his food. Try it! It really does work! |
It sounds like your already attached to him, and if he's on medication to get better I'd want to keep him. Did the vet tell you what the skin infection was, and if it will get better? |
i want to thank everyone for the great advice. i finally got through to the breeder and he said to call in the morning to drop my baby off. he is going to take him for a few days and have their vet handle everything at no extra cost to us. i will mention the omega3 to him and find out EXACTLY what's wrong with my baby. he'll be away from me for about a week or so...to nurse him back to health...do you think this is a smart idea??? thanx for the support!!!
